Hi brennakimi,
I'm interested in 3d computer animation. I waste a lot of time visiting forums like http://www.pixolator.com, http://www.raph.com/3dartists/, 404, and CGTalk. The people at these forums are always very friendly and give very helpful advice to each other. I visit those sites regularly, despite the fact that I'm useless at computer graphics and rarely watch cg films. I think I just like to see the state of the art in computer imaging. I'm not sure why. The maths looks very interesting but I'm not even able to understand it. It might just be the appeal of bright colours! But it's very satisfying and interesting to see a piece of art develop from concept to final rendering. added in edit: this is a good place to start: CGTalk | CG Awards. It is a list of images by amateur computer graphics people who won the "3d choice award". For example, I think it's really nice that there's a croation hobbyist who spends his spare time making computer-generated pictures of fat cats:

I make foam-padded swords and then me and my buddies fight with them.
Also I play video games with my wife and listen to rap music. And I waste a lot of time posting here.

i take stupid pictures and try not to lose my mind. i like reading math theory books and starting to write stupid books that will never be finished cause i'll get tired of how predictable and horrid i think my writing is.
i'm addicted to nail polish and i'm horribly clumsy. i burned myself on the oven yesterday making a pizza... two inch burn on the back of my hand.

Season ticket holder for my local Rugby Union team (most Brits could probably work that out given my name and location ).
Recently spent some time getting my Myth box up and running in case my Tivo dies - Tivo is effectively extinct over here now . My Myth is close to fully working now. I'm currently looking at the best way to transfer ~25 years of 35mm photos (just snapshots - nothing too high quality) to digital format to put them into Myth. I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

I spend alot of my free time by wasting it on the computer. For fun, I often go cycling or play video games to blow off steam. For mental kicks I read fiction or work on math and physics problems. Of course, I will soon be spending alot of that free time on my daughter as soon as she is born. *just two more months*

I waste a lot of time here, obviously.
I have recently taken up the hobby of knitting, which I am not sure could be considered a waste of time as I actually do produce useful things like hats, scarves, sweaters, and the like, in the end. I putter in the kitchen for fun, of course, which is also generally productive in that it keeps me and Zhimbo fed. I read a bit, watch TV a bit, listen to music a bit, go to movies and watch them at home. I like to travel when I can afford it. Oh, and PC based RPG games can become obsessive. I also like to encourage the breakdown of the traditional family and snatch all the little children I can lure to me in order to totrure them into renouncing their faith in Christ. Pretty mundane, really. This message has been edited by schrafinator, 11-20-2005 10:38 AM

I collect forest mould and fungus. I dabble in masses of branched filamentous hyphae, and endure the various tasks of dissecting rigorous morphological none-genus phenomenon.
No, just kidding. I paint, draw. I also draw on computer. I've done oils, acrylics, watercolours. Mainly I do small landscapes and fanart. I've also been know to create my own music albums from computer synth-programs. lol. Basically, I entertain myself for many hours, creatively, so that I don't end up like Crashfrog, wielding a sword in the street.
A whole other world of mikefor any people interested in art. This message has been edited by mike the wiz, 11-20-2005 10:48 AM

I don't consider it "wasting my time" so much as "enjoying my time"
I'm currently looking at the best way to transfer ~25 years of 35mm photos (just snapshots - nothing too high quality) to digital format to put them into Myth. Get a good scanner, one where the picture quality is limited by the print and not the scanner. The first image here is a scanned picture of my first kayak - homemade, now about 20 years old and in need of TLC. That is at Beaver Lake on Vancouver Island with my son in front. That kayak weighed 35 lbs and has a lot of miles on it. I now have a new ocean kayak that weighs more but is better suited to open water (and rolling): This is at St Croix island between Maine and New Brunswick, Canada, the oldest NE colony (1604) and where a young Champlain got his start. This picture was taken last year with my digital camera. Enjoy. Recently spent some time getting my Myth box up and running in case my Tivo dies - Tivo is effectively extinct over here now . My Myth is close to fully working now. Hey I just built one of those, myself. If you didn't spring for a tuner card with hardware compression, I'd recommend adding one along the way - you get a lot of neat features that way. For instance I can watch live TV on my Mac laptop, anywhere in the apartment, over my 802.11g network. Very cool. I use the Hauppauge PVR-150MCE - cheap and effective under the IVTV 3.x drivers.
I'm currently looking at the best way to transfer ~25 years of 35mm photos (just snapshots - nothing too high quality) to digital format to put them into Myth. I'd either use an automatic slide scanner, or I'd send the photos off to a good production house and pay them to do it. It's a mind-numbing task to do it yourself on a flatbed scanner, probably not worth your time. The production house will have a stack-fed scanner that they can use.
