Is that all that you have to say?? That the human animal is incapable of solving its(our) own problems through some sort of evolution? Dawkins states that memes are ideas and thought concepts...why can't we evolve through conscious effort? The snake was a metaphorical liar...(ye shall be as gods) yet we can't even be highly evolved humans...we kill each other as much as ever! Logic dictates that population increase is exceeding natural resource allotments...

from my perspective as an graying no-longer-so political activist, I recall that youth carries its own sense of urgency and imminence, the sense that things can't go on like this, that things are coming to a head. We see the world on the scale of our individual lives, but history works its most profound changes on a larger canvas.
You may in some sense be right, but you would be the first in a long, long line of folks who felt the same way and turned out to be wrong.
The Left Behind scenarios are not gonna happen because, IMHO, nobody has ever been able to write a book about what God is gonna do before He actually does it! (Only a staunch Biblical Literalist would beg to differ! The Bible=The Truth because my Ego has fused with God! Same Absolutist mentality as before the Enlightenment!)
From a logical perspective, humans WILL attempt to fix the problem by attempting to eliminate all forms of fundamentalism and allowing human diversity and rights of freethought to ascend into the penultimate philosophical belief system.(AntiChrist stands in temple, proclaiming himself to be God=humans in their own "temple"(the Body) proclaiming human wisdom as the main P.C. Theology!) I am enough of a literalist in regards to human nature to foresee another World War, as well...(unfortunately) There are some unforseen variables, however. Communication has been linking the minds of the world together as never before!
The Internet is a modern day Tower of Babel...rational minds know that modern warfare is as ridiculous as two guys with a hand grenade stuck in a jail cell together! Terrorism is the little mans weapon against the monied aristrocracy.
In a non-religious sense, I think that we all should learn to know God and to trust Him.
Its OK to be atheist, however,as long as you are honest with yourself about why you reject God in favor of human wisdom!

History of Humanity: Ascending or Descending?
Hangdawg13 writes:
With technological evolution, competition for food and habitat is no longer the force that drives the change, rather it is our own desires for money, power, self-improvement, eternal life, to transcend the universe, .....to become gods...
I would argue that competition for food and habitat still drives the change in regards to the third world.
The difference is that now, any third world student can learn computer literacy and step into the first world marketplace. They may then get corrupted by those desires for money, self improvment..etc..and sell their own country out to global interests. Or...if not their country, themselves.
See...the thing is, nationalism is no longer a driving force in globalistic conflicts. Individualism versus collectivism....there is where the conflict arises. The one world government scenario is, IMHO, tied directly into commerce and the marketplace. The next war, already in its "Manchurian" stages(WWII reference) is a war of ideas, ideologies, and Spirit versus spirits.

Nature is an infinite sphere of which the center is everywhere and the circumference nowhere.
Pensées (1670)
We arrive at truth, not by reason only, but also by the heart.
Pensées (1670)
Heb 4:12-13-- For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Holy Spirit--speaking through the Apostle Paul

Any New scenarios?
Looking at the future is a futile exercise.
The Past Is History.
The Future is a Mystery.
The Present is a Gift.
The Gift is the Gift of relationship with Jesus Christ.
If Jesus is past, (was) present, (He lives!) and future (and Is to come, the almighty!) Then it matters what we do on a moment by moment basis and our best bet is to maintain the daily relationship with the One whom encompasses eternity.
