Okay, you twisted my arm. Call me Member #6.

I have a "backup" machine (so slow that it almost is backing up - 266MHz ), networked to my main machine. I seldom use it, but I should be able to run it on the grid almost full-time, n'est-ce pas? (you can run multiple devices) I didn't read the instructions. I suppose I could retire one account and then "un-retire" the device on the remaining account? I'll be glad to do that if it will help your calculations. People who think they have all the answers usually don't understand the questions.

RAZD writes: I saw my first HIV module on my work computer today. You might want to dedicate one machine to that program Is that the FightAIDS@Home project? My equipment is too puny for that. I guess I'll just stick to my protein origami. People who think they have all the answers usually don't understand the questions.

RAZD writes: too puny??? quote: Not even on my good machine. Testimonial: The human proteome folding program runs painlessly even on my ancient and decrepit machinery. So there's no reason why people with 21st century equipment can't do it. People who think they have all the answers usually don't understand the questions.

Mostly a bump.
In case you thought I was dead - one of my machines was dead, but I replaced the CMOS battery and it's feeling much better now. Both of my machines are working on problems that will take well over 100 hours to complete. My alter ego should be reporting tomorrow. So, all you Christians coming home from church, how about signing up? People who think they have all the answers usually don't understand the questions.

(The bad news is: one of my monitors just died, so I'll only be "running" one machine until I can fix it or replace it.) Help scientific research in your spare time. No cost. No obligation. Join the World Community Grid with Team EvC

RAZD writes: just keep the monitor on the 'hot' machine. Hmm.... I had to shut down the "old(er)" machine to move the good monitor to the "good" machine. If I reboot it now, without a monitor, how will I know if it is running? It might be a day or two before it reports another result to the grid. ABE: the good news is: reports of the monitor's death have been greatly exaggerated. It has risen from the dead and is now running normally. (In case of further near-death experiences, it will reamin connected to my secondary machine.) You can expect results from both of my machines sometime in the New Year. How about a gold star for perfect attendance?
If I read your spreadsheet correctly, it appears that my time per result is higher than anybody else's. Does that mean they're giving me the really, really BIG problems? It's not unusual for me to take well over 100 hours to complete a result. It also appears that my efficiency is pretty good. So anybody else who's still running at twentieth-century speeds need not be discouraged from joining up. Help scientific research in your spare time. No cost. No obligation.
