So what happens to the peon machines when the protein folding is finished and the only program available is not available in a form for so many machines?
Looks like a design problem. Fight AIDS mark II? A linking of the "lesser" machines into a virtual machine? by our ability to understand RebelAAmerican.Zen[Deist

Mostly a bump.
In case you thought I was dead - one of my machines was dead, but I replaced the CMOS battery and it's feeling much better now. Both of my machines are working on problems that will take well over 100 hours to complete. My alter ego should be reporting tomorrow. So, all you Christians coming home from church, how about signing up? People who think they have all the answers usually don't understand the questions.

as long as it isn't the Peon-e report ... glad your still around.
I found I needed to leave my work computer on and signed in for it to run (rather than run in the background after rebooting), so I had to change my screensaver to password protected to meet company policy re vacant machines. New updates soon ...

I'd be interested in why others are not members.
Any one care to speak up?

They need to make USB ram sticks .... I have a friend who swears that forcing the Windows swap file to a 1 GB USB stick worked wonders on his old machine. Many years ago we were copying WP 5.1 for DOS into a RAM drive at boot up, then popping it up as a text editor in a document management system. Amazing what you could do with the old DOS and expanded/extended memory technology if you were willing to do the laborious custom-fitting. AbE: I thought we'd have dozens of members by now. There are few times in life where you can do this much good with so little effort.

Just as an aside, most of the comments made by folks seem to heavily favour the HIV research over the protein folding project.
Although you can't deny the huge importance of HIV reseach I think the protein folding project is potentially very important too, even if it doesn't have the 'glamour' of HIV research. Quoting from the WorldCommunityGrid page about the Human Proteome Folding Project:
The Human Proteome Folding project will provide scientists with data that predicts the shape of a very large number of human proteins. These predictions will give scientists the clues they need to identify the biological functions of individual proteins within the human body. With an understanding of how each protein affects human health, scientists can develop new cures for human diseases such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, SARS, and malaria. I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

So far all my tasks have been proteins, though I'm signed up for both.
BTW, Team EvC members, consider a recruitment pitch like the sig below...in your own unique flavor, of course. Save lives! Click here! Join the World Community Grid with Team EvC!

I like it! (checks new sig in preview window ... 5 adjustments later...)
I am happy to work on proteins - and it's not like this does not also contribute to the fight against AIDS, from Human Proteome Folding Project:
With an understanding of how each protein affects human health, scientists can develop new cures for human diseases such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, SARS, and malaria. The shape of proteins controls how they interact within the cell, and unravelling this can help solve other diseases, possibly ones like Parkinsons and Alzheimers and some cancers, diseases where a protein mechanism goes awry. btw - we broke the 3K rank barrier today:Members (Rank) 13 (#558) GO TEAM we are limited in our ability to understand by our ability to understand RebelAAmerican.Zen[Deist

It could be connected just not finished with the first module yet.
