Trust
I'd be interested in why others are not members.
Any one care to speak up?
I don't trust others to run my computer.

computer gods
You guys sound like you have started your own religion!
What can I call it? How about "Communion of the Omnipotant processor? Grid is good, Grid is great, now we thank Him for our food!
They seem to believe that with enough computing power anythiing can be solved.

Re: Trust
So...you only run software you've written?

It just seems a bit creepy.

Re: computer gods
Not really. What we believe is without enough computing power things will NOT get solved.
any reply would only help the train wreck.
Maybe a new topic?

Creepy
I'm confused by this. The program just runs a bunch of calculations, it does less creepy things than playing a computer game (a program that tries to immerse you psychologically in another world, the rules of which are decided by geeks).
My email program 'learns' what I consider spam and what I want to read. It gets to decide what I read and when. THAT'S creepy.
I always turn the computer off when I am not using it, the idea of letting it be on the net full time is creepy.

Thanks
That's fine. You don't have to leave it on the net full time. I may just be that you and others don't understand how the grid works.
You are right, bye.

way to go
Hey guys, I'm going to add my second computer to the grid - do I need to start a new profile or can I just add it to my current one?
Using a spare computer is the only way I would do this. If I was a hacker these systems would be my prime target.

reasons
Oddly enough, neither do I.
I don't see a lot of people I would have thought to see.
Maybe there're like I am and a bit queasy about having their computer being on line when they cannot monitor it.
Programs never stay in the background.
Some of the problems are mentioned in this thread.

you asked
I did my research before I joined and I assume that most others here did the same.
Not meaning to tread on anybodys toes, but you asked for reasons.

good luck
Security is about as good as you can get, you can set the time the program runs, you can set the cpu usage. It automatically runs at the lowest priority anyway.
Asgara, I hope noting but good comes from the program.
Just would rather my computer do what I tell it, don't always happen now.lol
