Re: Wondering Why NOT More Members?
An absolutely valid point.
I will suggest that depending on your situation, you might consider a memo to the brass at your workplace. Here are a few key points:
  • The project uses almost no bandwidth. The only time bandwidth comes into play is the short time involved in down loading the task to be worked on and during uploading the results when finished.
  • Computation is a background process and only uses free cycles. Like a screensaver, it does not interfere with applications running.
  • If either computation time or bandwidth are an issue, the program allows them to be independantly and individually scheduled. For example, it can be configured to run only at night or on weekends.
  • A complete record of activity is kept and depending on location, may well qualify as a Chraitable Contribution for tax purposes.

If your position makes it possible, please consider talking to your company about adding all of their machines to the grid. It is a win-win situation, good for them and good for all mankind.

Thanks to all of you.
Now up to 41 devices on the Grid. That still makes us pretty small potatoes compared to some of the big corportate teams, but IMHO a really great reflection on what EvC can do for the world.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could get that number of devices doubled over the next few months? Should be possible, after all we have several thousand members here.

Re: Stardust
I think quite a few EvC members have signed up for that. Unfortunately, the initial reports coming in seem to indicate that instead of having folk search using a microscope for star dust, the researchers will be using lawn rakes and blowers to sweep them up. Both the number of strikes and the size of the particles exceeded everyones expectations.

Re: Pegged Processors
We arecertainly in striking distance of breaking the 800 mark.

It doesn't matter.
We know you've been on since then, and your results still help with the overall goal. We thank you for each and every one of them.

Congratulations Omni and Thank you very much.
Back in November of last year RazD started this thread. In the less than six month since then, many members of EvC have contributed to the project. Of particular note I would like to honor Omni. This weekend, this first week of Easter, he passed the One Year Mark, he has contributed over one year of computing resouces. All told, the members of Team EvC have contributed over 8 years of computer resources to the effort.
Congratulations to all that have participated. How about some more of you helping out?
