Singleness
quote:
Everything applying to marriage, family and sex is specified in the Levitical law, et al. There is nothing I can think of that's not covered in the law as to how Israelites were to conduct themselves in this regard.
Except that our culture is different now and there are different challenges for our young people.
In the Bible children were usually married at age 13 or soon after if not by the age of 20. Not a lot of time for premarital sex. The father had authority over the daughter until she married. (Not sure about the son)
Men could have more than one wife.
The Bible does not deal with dating or prolonged singlehood. Today men and women are single into their early 30's. They leave their parents home before they are married.
No one is concerned with proving virginity anymore. Daughters aren't a commodity in the secular or Christian cultures. I know they still are in some cultures.
The Bible does not address abortion when the mother's life is threatened or birth control.
It is interesting thought that the Torah does not prohibit premarital sex. It does not forbid a man from having consensual sexual relations with any woman he could legally marry.

Re: Singleness
So that was the intent of that concoction. Ick!
I don't recall any tests for a man's infidelity!! Of course when you can have more than one wife, what is the point?
