Currently it will take 28 members for us to break the top 300

Wondering Why NOT More Members?
Would any of the non-members care to discuss why they are not joining? I am really curious as to people's reasonings.

Re: Welcome #27
We're turning in over 35 results a day. To break into the top 1000 for results will take at least 2006 results(currently). Given everyone's numbers changing, we should be there in 3 or 4 days.

Realistic Goals?
I see no reason we couldn't break the top 500. Right now there are groups with less members and devices than us within the top 400. They have been on since startup in Nov 04.
Para had predicted we have a chance to be within range of the top 500 by the beginning of April.
With our member base, we have the ability to be a force within the grid. We currently have over 50 hardcore members that have made more than 1000 posts. We have over 100 members that have made more than 500 posts. If even a small fraction joined this project we could be a top team.
There are many teams within the top 200 that are averaging less time/results per day than we are.
Team EvC has been online since 11-24-05.
Right now we have 27 members running 43 devices.
We have four members running 4 devices each, one member running 3 devices, and four members running 2 devices each.
Each day we average 14:15:24:25 of run time (day:hour:min:sec).
Each day we return, on average, 37.27119 results.
Results are taking, on average, 9:25:42 to complete (hour:min:sec).

World Community Grid Global Statistics:

Totals:
Members 150,513
Teams 9,079 w/ 66,134 members in them
Devices 250,064
Run Time (y;d:h:m:s) 27,486:110:16:32:42
Points Generated 6,205,115,377
Results Returned 26,721,929
Averages:
Run Time Per Calendar Day (y;d:h:m:s) 56:034:11:47:20
Run Time Per Result (y;d:h:m:s) 0:000:09:00:38
Points Per Hour of Run Time 25.77089
Points Per Calendar Day 12,663,500.76939
Points Per Result 232.21061
Results Per Calendar Day 54,534.54898
WOW! The grid has donated over 27,486 YEARS of processor time to benefit humanity! All told over 26 MILLION results have been returned.

Re: way to go
Quoting from a Grid Tech on their forums:
We take security very seriously on this project and I drive my management crazy making sure we take care of any and all potential security concerns. The last thing we would need in a philanthropic project like this is a black eye due to some security problem.
While I know, as a computer scientist, that it is almost impossible to guarantee 100% security, I must say that the agent software used for World Community Grid is probably the most secure piece of software you have on your PC (counting Windows, the standard applications, browser, device drivers, etc.). If I were a hacker, and knowing what I know, the World Community Grid agent would be my least promising avenue for attacking a machine.
The software we are currently using has been audited in various ways for vulnerabilities and we employ ethical hackers to see if there are any problems that we should address either with the agent or our servers. While on one hand I don't like the idea of publishing a lot of detailed security information which might make the novice users unjustifiably nervous, I am planning on writing a security overview to be placed somewhere on our web site, because the question does come up often in various meetings.
Here is the link to their Privacy and Security page.
Another quote from their forum admin:
We use an encrypted communication link between client and server. The communication link is established by the client, never by the server. The server is secured by IBM. No security is perfect, but in practice this means that spam or viruses have to come from somewhere else.
Major organization such as IBM seem to have no issues with the security of this project. Here is the link to their partners page, World Community Grid - About Us - Our Partners

Re: percy?
Oddly enough, neither do I.
I don't see a lot of people I would have thought to see.

Re: reasons
The only problems I've seen mentioned in this thread have also been countered in this thread.
Security is about as good as you can get, you can set the time the program runs, you can set the cpu usage. It automatically runs at the lowest priority anyway.
But hey, whatever. If you don't want to run it you don't have to. You have questions, I believe they've been answered. If you still choose to stay off the grid, that is your decision.
I did my research before I joined and I assume that most others here did the same.

Re: Realistic Goals?
Go to "Statistics" from the top menu, then click "By Teams" from the left hand menu. Once there you have "World Community Grid Team Summary" where you can get an alpha list of teams, and "Team Statistics."
If you look under "Team Statistics" you have the option of getting the rating listing of teams by members, run-time, results, points, etc. You can even do multiple team comparisons.
You can also get statistics by project, geography, and by members.

Points for Coragyps
I "believe" that only points/results reached while a member of a team count toward that team. So, as for us you are starting over, sorry.
But Welcome anyway hun, glad to have you.

Re: Buying a new machine
I've build several of them. My advice is to buy the biggest, best equip you can. No matter how much HD or RAM you install, eventually you will wish you had more. Of course, thay may just be me
