Is it a coincidence that he happened to be the only dissenting vote in the Senate against the war in Iraq ?

Yes, I tend to think that is coincidence.

Aside from being the dissent vote, there was a lot more to Paul Wellstone.Being a democrat, his ideas although great and innovating for some, infuriated the republicans greatly.I believe there's a lot more than meet the eye.(check Google seach engine for info.)

quote: It really makes no sense. If he was, and there was any kind of evidence for this the Democrats could have garnered great support, but instead they alianated the swing vote with their pompous display at his memorial, giving the Republicans the push they needed to take the state. It would have been an extremely high risk move to assasinate him in order to have the Republicans take his seat, in fact if not for the Democrats appalling behaviour a Republican would most likely not have won.

Well, maybe I'm wrong, but I still thinf that chances of that accident happening ,to that particular senator,in a extremely important political race (and extremely close too),holding almost subversive opposite views with regards to the Status Quo,a well-known dissenting voice, and above all with not only excellent chances of winning but with a long career still ahead...I don't know ,but the odds of that happening to anyone ... must be billions to one!

And he was flying in a small plane, in bad weather..
The odds just went up. [This message has been edited by RedVento, 01-10-2003]

If air travel were as safe as that article implies, then planes would never go down.
Wellstone's untimely end is a great target for conspiracy buffs because (1) he had a sort of heroic quality of dissent from the norm (2) his death was sudden and violent (3) it happened during a time in US history that when things seem uncertain. And there are those who like him so much they have to find something greater than a pilot error or a bad engine to rationalize his death. I figured this would be conspiracy fodder from when it happened, it just took surprisingly long for it to trickle down to here, where I am now hearing the conspiracy theory for the first time. I still don't see how Wellstone was at all dangerous. At worst, he might have one day been a Democratic presidential nominee. Oh by the way, I wanted to point out that that article claims that the evil Republican government is lieing to us about 9/11, homeland security, and Iraq, and since Wellstone was a liberal he's a convenient martyr for their political views. Having one's heroes killed by the enemy (rather than by bad weather), especially if he is allegedly killed for being a liberal, is always good PR. [This message has been edited by gene90, 01-12-2003]
