The Purposes of Law
Laws are made as instruments to govern. It identifies governing principles; the scope and limitations. Law provides both acknowledgement and encouragement (reward) or prevention (retribution or punishment) to actions done. It is also the force that governs the universe. Since there are two laws responsible in the governance of both the material and spiritual worlds, it is necessary to outline their respective purposes, separately.
The Divine Law. The Divine Law governs the Spiritual World and the spiritual entities. It sets limitations to all their actions, and is being implemented through the omnipotence of God. The scope of the Divine Law has no boundary or limitations. This Divine Law is vital in the maintenance of the flow of God’s plans because it gives every spiritual entity the direction or end of their actions which is the execution of their assigned tasks.
The Divine Law has no entry point for argumentation because of its perfect state. However, under the control of this law is not an absolute excuse to attain perfection. Although it sets limitations to actions, it does not control the “will” of the doer. It only sets guidelines and basis for either reward or retribution for the consequences of the actions done. Nevertheless, it is absolutely enforced.
The Natural Law. The force that enclave the universe is the Natural Law. It is the totality of all the governing principles and laws within the material universe. Everything is under its control as it sets patterns to all natural phenomena and maintains order in the cosmos. Generally, it is the blue print of all the forces within the cosmos.
The Natural Law is vital in the realization of God’s Kingdom on Earth. Like in the “tree of life” and the “tree of knowledge of good and evil” waiting for the right time to ripe, so as to the plans of God. With the definitions and purposes of the two laws, we can clearly distinguish the rules they play in the establishment of God’s Dual Kingdom. But, where in these laws man should submit himself? And, since man has the dual identity as spirit and flesh, he must therefore submit himself to both of the two laws.
The Human Law and the Law of Man. Man is endowed with spirit, which make him a rational being. He is no ordinary animal that has no will but this spirit frees him from the bondage of innocence and irrationality. Man is an extra-ordinary being because he is the essence of all God’s creations. His spirit gives him the free will. But this same free will made Lucifer the “fallen one.” What will happen to man if he will let his own free will ruled over him? He could be fallen, too. And this is the reason why man made laws of his own to regain his position among all creations. This law serves as man’s instrument to deter the influence of his “self-centered will,” and to re-establish the harmony between and among his brethren. This law is called as the “human law.”
Human law is not a perfect law because it is just a product of human endeavor and is still subject to revision. However, human law possesses the essences of both the Divine Law and Natural Law. Nevertheless, I believe it cannot be a human law if it will not protect as well as promote the welfare of humanity. But there are laws made that are not in conformity to the Divine Law and Natural Law due to free will’s absolute independence from the control of God. These are made only to serve man’s interests, and are called “laws of man.”
Free Will. Free will is the absolute autonomy of both man and spirit in decision-makings. It is an independent administration of one’s decision which is being justified by its execution. Free will is maybe a right that all entities are enjoying, and is beyond the control of God, but it must be distinguished from freedom because the latter is just a component in the execution of the first. Right and freedom are two different concepts. Right gives man or spirit the privilege to decide freely on choices that concern him. It is more on internal (personal) aspect in decision-making. Freedom on the other hand takes away any form of outside influences and gives man or spirit the way to push through. It is more on physical aspects and has relation to the immediate environment.
Free will is a gift to all creations from the very moment they became what they are. It enables them to push through on their assigned tasks. It is the prime essence of life. It makes life so purposeful because it gives every entity the absolute power to decide for them. This is the very reason why laws are made so that this “free will” not to be abused.
Free will is inevitable to all entities because it is inseparable from them. It gives them the absolute right and freedom to live a life of their choices. But it does not end there. Laws are made in order to remind them that every decision made is still subject for evaluation, and the merit or punishment on the action done depends on the degree of its significance or immateriality. Do you remember the time when Lucifer revolted in the spiritual world? His actions were purely of his own. He was regarded as the best among the angels yet he was not satisfied. He yearned for more, and because he has the free will, he did it.
Let us examine it further. Lucifer was chosen to lead the angels in assisting God in the Spiritual World. He was with God and he had all the opportunities to talk to Him (God) face to face. It was a privilege and a gift because not all spirits have this. He must be very lucky because he was chosen by God. He must be a perfect one, but his free will made him the “fallen one.” Why this thing happened to him? He was already with God and must be free from any sin. He must be an “unseduced one” yet he was the first been seduced. By whom? By his own free-will which he let to prevail over him.
So, free will is absolutely beyond the control of God and the choice is absolutely an individual’s responsibility. And if man and spirit are gifted with this free will then both must subject themselves to laws that will watch over their actions.
(there is a continuation)
