That may all be true, but my point was in regard to his management style and his lack of the ability to delegate authority without keeping intimately involved. In other words, micro management. If taken to extremes, this can cause as many problems as the "hands off" management style employed by Bush.
Oh, no disagreement from me on that point.
That's why he wasn't that incredible of a president.
Clinton was much better at putting talented, experienced people in positions suited to them and letting them do their thing with his vision.

Re: LB, Monk, Tal, and other Bush defenders
Well, I have that general opinion of him as well, which is why I didn't call him "bad" either.
He's not anything close to what might be called a "deep thinker" and combine that with a privilaged, indulged, aristocratic upbringing, a mother seemingly completely incapable of feeling compassion towards poor people, and a strict policy of surrounding himself only with people who agree with him dooms him to mediocrity.

Defending Bush on Katrina just became considerably more difficult.

Is Bush merely chronically amnesiac?
Bush supporters are quick to point out that he isn't a moron, and is actually a smart guy with a quick mind. After all, he got a degree, right?
So if he isn't stupid he's either
a) Very forgetful
b) A liar
I'm not keen on either qualities in a man as powerful as he. Anybody else have another interpretation of his actions?

So are you saying that Bush is a very forgetful moron?
I was actually saying that he was a liar, which is more realistic. The best we can say about him is that he is very forgetful...that's the nicest and best thing we can say.
I have just learned that the right have begun niggling over 'breach' and 'overtopped' and that 'we are fully prepared' and the likes. I'd have thought you'd go for that defense.

What rings? Two narrow election victories, likely fraudulent? A lower approval rating than even Nixon had? His own party stabbing him in the back on the Dubai ports business? Failed Social Security "reform"? Civil war in Iraq? Massive budget overruns? Profligate expansion of government?
Republicans are going to lose Congress in either the next election or the one after that; any presidential candidate the Republicans field who is connected with Bush and his policies will lose. When the Democrats take over and investigate the past two presidental elections and find the Republican victories fraudulent, that's going to be a legal basis for the summary dismissal of Bush's judicial appointees from the courts.

That's kinda sick.
So what does it say of democrats that a very forgetful moron runs political rings around them again and again?
Today's news has shown us that the President had complete knowledge of the devastation that Katrina would bring, and the lives that would be lost, and that he did nothing.
Your response is a smile, and a quip in praise of Bush.

Re: That's kinda sick.
Vote John Kerry to stop hurricanes.
Or perhaps "to respond effectively to crisis situations."
You see, Bush was warned ahead of time that the levees would be breached, that putting victims in the Superdome would endanger lives, and that inaction would result in thousands of deaths.
His response was to go eat cake with John McCain. He did nothing to mobilize the federal government until several days after the storm, once the damage was already done.
It's interesting that you find thousands of needless deaths funny.
