Your head might explode when you read this, but I'm willing to risk it.
This is some crazy shizzle.

Wow. Pretty powerful article. We humans are pretty damn good at "do as I say, not as I do."

Priceless. It's like how all these super-conservative gay haters on the Right are all either gay themselves or have a close gay relative. I mean it's not even a cliche anymore, it's like a physical law.
What I love is the woman who comes in to get her daughter an abortion, and the daughter asserts how she doesn't need contraception because she's going to wait until marriage. Like, what? I suppose you just fell out of a tree? I love too how all the anti-abortionists getting abortions call everyone around them murderers except themselves. Sorry, but hiring someone to kill someone is still murder. AbE: I should say - I don't actually love these things; they just give me a rueful sense of satisfaction at the thought of someone being exposed to the harsh reality that contradicts their cherished worldview. Ever objected to someones behaviour which you know you yourself have at some point done? Different situation. These people are electing behaviors that they described as moral outrages in the past, and then continue to do so after the behavior, because they believe that nothing is immoral when they do it. In other words, hypocrites.

There is a big difference in behaviors that you know you probably shouldn't yet still do, smoking for instance, and actively seeking to stop others from having the right to do something that you yourself do.
To use the smoking analogy...When I smoked I understood it wasn't a good habit. I did it but I let others know that I didn't like what I was doing. I never tried to legally stop them from behaving in a way that I did myself. Now, if I actively tried to make it illegal for anyone other than myself to smoke that would be the height of hypocracy.

Message 7 doesn't apply. I have never actively sought to make it illegal for anyone OTHER than me to speed. I have never actively sought to make it illegal for anyone OTHER than me to do anything. I have never actively sought to make something illegal, decided that "I" needed to do it myself, then went back to attempting to make sure that no one else had the choice that I made.
It is a very different scenario to have some questionable behavior, (smoking), or to have broken the law, (speeding), and understand that these behaviors aren't good ideas. Its called taking responsibility for these behaviors. "I know I shouldn't smoke, its a dangerous nasty habit, but I do. I hope you don't start smoking too." How is this the same as "Abortion is murder, it should be illegal for EVERYONE to have an abortion... except me." AbE: I thought you gave up on our fair share of the web. Have you ever wished that a cop was around whilst you silently cursed a person doing something that you yourself have done...and probably will do again? A question of semantics in that case
I thought you gave up on our fair share of the web. I have. But names like RobinRohan and Faith and Schraf and others have seared my intellectual nostrils so I do drop by to have a look at how they are getting on. Amongst other things, my conscience was finding it hard to accept the pay cheque (my boss is an ardent Roman Catholic so I'd even be more sure of being fired if he knew what I was epousing. "Salvation by faith ALONE....AAARRGGHHHH!!") This message has been edited by iano, 23-Mar-2006 10:44 PM

It has been my experience that the most hardcore Bible thumping Christians are the ones that either have or had some of the most sinister experiences imaginable.
The ones in the 'had' category are usually such that their Christianity turned them from their various questionable compulsions. The ones in the 'have' category just scare me to my bones. Luckily, most of the Christians I know are just normal people who face these types of life decisions head on with a sense of responsibility and honesty about their percieved or actual vulgarities. God does not require us to be perfect in fact specifically says that such a thing is impossible. Everyone has a dark side, those who say that they do not usually have the darkest ones of all. Of course, biblical creationists are committed to belief in God's written Word, the Bible, which forbids bearing false witness; --AIG (lest they forget)

...and have done it again subsequent to your objection to their doing it. Actually, no. I try not to judge others for doing things that I myself am quite guilty of. I try not to do things that I believe are wrong, of course, and I usually don't except by mistake; recognizing this about myself, I take a liberal view towards the behavior of others. But then, I'm not a Christian.
