Re: Right on, Whisper
You can see it from Katrina,
And don't forget the Galveston hurricane of 1900. That killed five times as many people, and they hadn't even invented cars for kids to fornicate in the back seats of yet.

It is a question of degrees. Look at the situation today, is it not a higher degree? I don't believe God is responsible for most natural disasters! But He can protect us if we look to Him. There was good and bad the last century as well. But look at all the good He allowed to happen for the US! They were able to be get bibles and missionaries all over the place, and prospered as a result. I don't know what your problem is with sex either. That was the first commandment. Be fruitful-something, incidentilly men of Sodom could not be.

Cause and effect, eh?
Wow. I wonder how that worked, exactly. I mean, leaving industry and technology out of that "prospered" equation.

There is a difference between ordering nukes dropped on 5 cities, and someone who slaps another person. You could say they are bth wrong. It is a question of degree. Obeying eating guidelines from the old testament is different than cannibalism or homosexuality. There is a difference. A big one. Really.

Re: Right on, Whisper
Let's see how they did that.
They ripped off the faithful, put a minority amount of money into bibles and missonaries, and pocketed the rest for personal gain.
True christians, every one.
I personally find 'missonary' work disgusting. I find the methods of it disturbing, the disrespect for other cultures dishonest, and the goal of it immoral.

And there's a difference between a child being disrespectful to his parents and Joshua killing every inhabitant of five cities, too. The former gets you stoned to death and the latter is the Will of God - and if you don't kill all the babies, too, it'll bring trouble on the agressors.
Old Testament fails to impress me: homosexual behavior is an "abomination." Shrimp and catfish are an "abomination." Where's this "big difference?"

It's all over America, one place at a time pretty much covering the whole nation. You can see it from Katrina, to the interior breadbasket states and from all the coastlines. God's protection on America is being withdrawn exactly as fortold by the prophets of old pertaining to the last days of apostacy before the prophesied soon coming 2nd advent of Jesus to judge and to rule the world in righteousness. The wrath of God is emerging upon the planet and this is only the beginning!
Yawn.
And how many times have we heard this before?

Re: Right on, Whisper
Yeas, and remember the Great Spanish Influenza Epidemic of 1918 that killed 100 million people in one year?
And let's not forget the Black Death, which killed 34 million people over 5 years in the mid fourteenth century. That was fully one third of the population of Europe.
Have the end times been "near" for 600 years?

Jerry Falwell
This question is for anyone who feels the same way Mr. Falwell does. If God is willing to slam airplanes into buildings to express his displeasure with homosexuals, then why is he not willing to, say, cause it to rain on the day of a massive gay pride parade?
I would agree that secular thought has greatly contributed to all the problems we face in the world today. But God doesn't ask people or compel people to slam airplanes into planes to display His displeasure. He simply allows man's freewill to take them wherever they may go. I'm a Christian, however, I have serious doubts as to whether or not Jerry is. In my mind, he is as close to being a Pharisee as anyone I've ever known. Perhaps he should ask himself how he has personally contributed to the black eye that all of Christendom has suffered at the hands of some of these rogue Crusaders. But then again, we all had a hand in the problems we face. So maybe if everyone blamed themselves we'd all be better off.
So God's willing to take an active, murderous (or at least manslaughterous) hand in the fate of America because of our attitude toward homosexuals, but he won't whistle up a storm cloud or two to send everybody home when we come out to say "gays are ok"? I mean, c'mon... as far as discouraging people goes, there's a reason the phrase "rain on their parade" is a classic.
People like Falwell demonize homosexuality. I agree that homosexuality is an aberration and I make no apology for believing that. However, to arrive at the conclusion that 9/11 happened because of homosexuality is about as ridiculous as anything I've ever heard. Homosexuals are as much as a sinner as I am. The only difference is, I can admit it. Engaging in homosexuality is no different than Jerry's daughter engaing in an extra-marrital affair. Sin is sin, and no sin trumps another in the eyes of Him who institutes Law.

Re: Right on, Whisper
I agree Buz. All these things are showing God's judgment against the nation, and perhaps the whole planet as you say. It's only going to get worse.
But why do we say anything along these lines? The Old Testament prophets were always telling the people that judgment would come upon them for their idolatries and other sins, but the prophets were not exactly popular. Some of them were killed for their trouble. The prophesied judgements came as foretold.
It's the same situation here. The hope is that people might consider the causes of God's wrath and repent, but it doesn't happen that way, they just ridicule the prophets and defend their sins. Even some Christians on this thread ridicule Falwell.

Because He's not blaming the homosexuals, and to the extent Falwell is I believe he's wrong. It's the politics that is to blame. Actually Falwell is pretty clear about that. It's the "activists" who are bringing it about. It is the nation as a whole that is being judged, not individuals. God always gives individuals time to repent and be saved. This is a different thing. God judges nations as covenanted or tribal entities. We're all in this together. A nation is punished for official positions and laws that favor sin. It isn't sinners as such that are being punished, though always that time will come, but those who refuse to acknowledge that there is such a thing as sin and even make laws to promote it. It's not the individual sins of gays, it's legalizing gay marriage as a "right" that will be the national sin if it gets widespread. It's not the individual sins of the sad people who do and get abortions, it's the laws that support the murderous practice as a "right" that are the national sin.
I ask because yesterday was Chicago's gay pride parade through boystown, and a bright, balmy sunny day. Perfect parade weather, really. . . . So what's up with that?
I hope I explained this above. God won't stop the nation from such sin, that's our responsibility. If we don't stop it, if we treat it as a good thing and support it, then as a nation He will ultimately punish us.

You mess with fire, you get burned.
If you pick up a hot coal and get burned, it's not God judging you and it's not the devil trying to burn you. I think a lot of people like to blame one or the other because it's easier than looking in the mirror.
