Why is it the end of the thread? It's not my thread. You can all still entertain and congratulate each other with your amoral instrumental proposals for saving youth from the mean people who would expose them to such an evil idea as abstinence.
I haven't thought through what I would advocate as a practical approach to the problems the thread addresses. All I know is that I hate the terms it is being discussed in here.

Well since we are all in agreement that abstinece-only education is a waste of time - besides going "yah! how great we all are!" there really is nothing to discuss unless someone had a counter viewpoint that they wish to put. As far as I can see, you are the only person doing anything remotely like that, so unless you have a program to advocate to us - I'm at a loss what else there is to do besides post in a circle.

It helps to take some time to read the quotes you post Schraf.
Faith said in your quote of her "scale". Scale doesn't mean 'never happened before' it means 'never happened before to this measure'. Give her a little credit - she's probably read Romans 1 by now

You have to wonder why Syphilis was so rampant in the 16th century (which is why the condom was invented)? What was god punishing those god-loving folks for?

Who says they were god-loving. No doubt they were reaping the consequences of fornication. That's how such things are brought about, or didn't anyone here know that?

Did you read the context into account here (ie: the content of the post to which Faith was responding to when she wrote this) Schraf?

So, it would seem that comprehensive, real sex education results in a greater liklihood of moral behavior by teens, as those armed with the truth delay sex longer and indulge in oral and anal sex less than those who only get abstinence-only. You don't get moral behavior out of a manipulative mechanical program, you just get calculated behavior that superficially looks moral to people who don't think much. Your whole focus is mechanical and instrumental, mine is moral. There's nothing for us to discuss. Carry on. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Actually, as pointed out way back in Message 40, the studies show that kids that receive abstinence only sex education are MORE likely to become sexually active.
Among the findings in the Texas study: About 23 percent of the ninth-grade girls in the study already had sexual intercourse before they received any abstinence education, a figure below the national average. After taking an abstinence course, the number among those same girls rose to 28 percent, a level closer to that of their peers across the state. Among ninth-grade boys, the percentage who reported sexual intercourse before and after abstinence education remained relatively unchanged. In 10th grade, however, the percentage of boys who had ever had sexual intercourse jumped from 24 percent to 39 percent after participating in an abstinence program. From this site. So what reality shows is that abstinence only programs increase the likelhood of kids becoming sexually active. Aslan is not a Tame Lion
