Re: Why should an atheist believe?
But if a believer finds an answer to a particular question should he persist in looking for an answer to that question?
Hell yes. He definitely should continue questioning EVERY answer.
Whats wrong with arriving at an end (your use of the word 'dead' has negative connotations - 'end' seems sufficient, unless there is good reason to suppose arriving at an end is a 'bad' thing)?
Because your answer may be wrong or incorrect.

Re: Why should an atheist believe?
Which makes it a bit pointless to attempt to find answers. If your stance is you can never be sure you've got it right.
It would be simpler not to bother
As Robin Williams once said. "I'm not looking for Miss Right - I'm looking for Miss Right Now. Perhaps this is what you mean

Nope, not at all what I meant.

Re: Why should an atheist believe?
Considering that the vast majority of the world's population of humans believes in some sort of divine entity or god, I would be inclined to think that believing comes quite easily to us.
Theoretically speaking, I don't see why it should though.
To me the easiest thing in the world is to be a non-believer, because the world seems to me to scream out, "Accident!"
I would argue against this idea that the believer's way is the easy and lazy way, and the hard, brave, and rugged way is the way of the non-believer.
I suppose there are people to whom the world screams out just as emphatically, "Design!"

Is fun the motivation? Attempting solve unsolvable riddles?

It is if you've already made up your mind that the riddle cannot be solved.

Re: Why should an atheist believe?
It wouldn't do it for me - but wherever one gets ones jollies is fine I suppose
{AbE}But if one part of the riddle includes the possibility of God then 'you' might not be the one who solves it. He can play too surely?
