Re: New report shows Canadians Healtier than Americans.
As an expatriot Canadian I would have to say it's probably not so much the healthcare system (which I certainly prefer) as the diet and the lifestyle. Canadians tend to eat somewhat less of the pre-packaged, processed, contaminated, manufactured crap that passes for food for so many Americans. More Canadians than Americans probably cook from first principles - the only way to obtain a decent diet these days - and seem to have more exercise in their lives. Everytime I go back to Canada I am reminded of how mnay more people I see out jogging, cycling and walking their dog etc. than I see under similar circumstances here in America.

Preventative medicine? Are you insane? How would the rich Repiglicans and drug companies make any profit from people NOT getting sick?
The NY Times had an excellent series of OP-ed articles a while back that revealed the true inefficiencies of the private medical insurance business in this country. Turns out, the insurance companies spend more money hiring people to try and shift responsibility for claims to government agencies and others than they actually spend on care for the people they insure. Go figure. F***ing profit-driven parasites.
Edited by EZscience, : Spelling - and it wasn't 'Repiglicans'

Bumping up
I am bumping this topic up because I believe this is the most important issue facing the US right now.
More people die every year from lack of health care than have been killed by terrorists in the entire history of the USA
