What should I write...

A friend of mine who works in a journal of science & religious issues recently asked me to write an article for the next issue. The main topic is, what else, evolution, and these guys are offering me a shot at the Turkish creationist Harun Yahya. What should I write? SHould I focus to one particular argument (ie. human evolution) or should I start a large-scale attack?

Sounds a bit woolly, but how focussing on human evolution as an example of creationist fallacies and then extending it to a wider "Creation of the Gaps" attack?PE

I'm afraid I've not come across Harun Yahya - though I presume others here are familiar with him. Is there a particular approach he advocates? From the OP I guess he has things to say regarding human evolution, if so I would concentrate on that aspect. I always find that a well focussed in depth discussion of a narrow field is more interesting than a fairly superficial treatment of a wider field. Remember, most of the readers of the journal are likely to be very familiar with the general subject, with a more focussed article you're more likely to write something the readers are less familiar with - if not actually new.

It's a very slickly done site, borrowing heavily from Answers in Genesis, Institute for Creation Research, and their ilk, but using the same data to prove that Allah was the creator instead of some Judeo-Christian guy. Go poke around some time when you're really bored. Harun Yahya's main website is http://www.harunyahya.com . Lately they are introducing creationism in Eastern Europe (check the running text on the uppermost section). His target is not just Muslims in Islamic countries, but also the world in general. His success is beyond ICR and AiG's wildest dreams; imagine having creationist films broadcasted on a major TV channel in Serbia & Bosnia, handing out creationist books, translated in Malay & Bahasa Indonesia, building a Creation Museum in Ukraine (Quetzal? You still in Ukraine?), etc.Should we start thinking of of a global creationist conspiracy?

Whoo, hoo! I hadn't heard that one. Considering how the government keeps the lid on Moslems in general and fundamentalists in particular, I find myself wondering who he bribed to get THAT agreement. Of course, sometimes the government here likes to show the "West" that they go in their own direction. I can see it in Serbia and Bosnia, with their large Moslem population. Odd tho'. None of my staff seems to know anything, either. The vast majority of religious Ukrainians are Eastern/Russian/Ukrainian Orthodox. Doesn't seem like a Turkish Moslem fundamentalist would get very far... I'll keep my ears open. Yahya's site of course contains minimal information - if you find out anything else, let me know...
