Any balls Percy?
I am confused Percy.
You are 'man' enough to try your best to bully Faith into being an Admin and when she refuses you enlist the use of the docile AdminBuz as an emotional lever to 'force' Faith into being an admin, yet you do not have the balls to answer my question?
Poor show.
Brian.

Any sense of place or propriety, Brian?
I'd use email.

Why is Brian Suspended ?
Why is EvC member Brian suspended ?
Why are we told of his suspension near his avatar but not in the Public Record Forum ?
All we know is that he asked a public question, then he is suspended, then his suspension is not publicly announced the normal way.
Brian should not have been publicly announced as suspended then told it will be handled by email. The point is someone has made a mistake and they are unwilling to publicly admit it.

If you hold your mouse over the small red dot (suspension indicator) on one of Brian's messages, the "mouseover" text that pops up includes the reason.

That "reason" isn't very enlightening. It might as well say, "Because we say so."

The more important question is..
why is adminbrian suspended? Because I'm guess that cuts his access to the hidden mod forum, right?

Re: Why is Brian Suspended ?
I'm curious about this myself. Placing the cursor over the icon gives no useful information, and there is no record of his banning on the usual thread. I even went to his profile to look up his recent posts, and I found little out of the ordinary, and nothing from an admin stating that any particular message or exchange was resulting in a suspension.
So, what message or messages prompted the suspension? Who made the decision? This used to be public information; do we no longer get to see the reasons for suspensions?

yeah... what the heck does this mean?
quote:
Suspension expires: Indefinite
Reason: For actions against the best interests of EvC Forum.
is there a way to make say which rule was broken? and can we please keep the suspension posts, at least in the thread where the offending post was made, and in reply to it? it's good to actually have those, both as a public record, and so we know better what not to do.

Brian Suspension - A special situation
File it under "For the admins to know now, and the general membership to be told about later".
No further comment now. I also think that you're not going to get any comment from any other admin.

Re: Brian Suspension - A special situation
I'm guessing Brian's suspension has something to do with his overall general harsh tone toward well known creationist members here as well as the inactiveness of his admin alter ego.
While one can easily pick up the occasion hostile tones throughout the debates that go on here, there are some that are especially noticable. It is an unspoken rule that debating in good faith requires the show of at least some kind of good will or understanding toward the opponents. Lately, Brian's tones seem to grow harsher and harsher toward his opponents. If looked at carefully, one could understand that the almost hostile intentions are carried over from previous debates.
An obvious recent example of Brian's not-so-good intentions toward creationists can be found in message 4 of this thread. In my humble opinion, his reaction to Faith's post was uncalled for and could have been a lot less harsh.
Anyway, without much further information, that is how I interpret "For actions against the best interests of EvC Forum."
Added by edit.
From what I understand, it is best that an admin needs to be as impartial as can be humanly possible. While this is a hard goal to achieve (just like that one more goal that the USA national team failed to make against Italy earlier today), it is always better to see an admin, though partial, who demonstrates restraints toward "the others". My understanding is that Brian's recent outbursts, if you want to call it that, have made it hard to convince "the others" that he is trying his best to be impartial.

Re: Any sense of place or propriety, Brian?
Percy,
I don't know what post of Brian's caused the problem. Not having access to his knowledge of Bibical and near Eastern archeology will make this site a lot less interesting to me, so I'm hoping a solution can be worked out, and worked out soon.
I don't see a need for Brian to be an admin but I do wish he could contribute his knowledge to threads that are often dominated by fundamentalists who at best use limited and poor sources such as the Bible in translation and a few websites to make dubious historical claims. Brian does a well annotated job of arguing the current archeological evidence.

yeah, but i've seen suspensions here before, publically announced, for reasons similar to "you're being an ass, have a break." i did notice the overly harsh tone, yes, but i don't see why they wouldn't talk about it if it's just that.
maybe something wrong? i hope everything's ok with brian, and all.
An obvious recent example of Brian's not-so-good intentions toward creationists can be found in message 4 of this thread. In my humble opinion, his reaction to Faith's post was uncalled for and could have been a lot less harsh.
i'm not sure that post really broke any rules, per se. it was a little, um, picky i guess would be the word. but i've seen lots of posts like that -- i tend to take an opponents argument apart into pieces too, though not to that degree, nor am i that demanding of evidence.
however, brian did debate an admin in the thread itself, which is a big no-no.
From what I understand, it is best that an admin needs to be as impartial as can be humanly possible. maybe. but is that cause to ban someone as a member entirely? they did something similar a while back with randman. he was creating too many problems, and acting up in the private admin forum, so they canned him altogether. if that's the case, i make the same argument for brian as i do for randman.
impartial or obnoxious admins should just be demoted, not banned altogether.
[added by second edit:] i should read back a little further before posting. it looks like adminbrian got suspended first -- and brian probably got suspended for his insulting tone above. maybe that's not the WHOLE reason, but it's good enough. why not just say that, other admins?
