Re: my opinion?
no. stop being a cop-out, and wait for ned to explain his opinion. you're just trying to avoid it, in case you're wrong. if this were poker, i'd call your bluff -- you have a very poor poker face.
and for god's sake, stop trying to side-track every thread you're in.

Re: my opinion?
I quite like the notion that objective superiority in reading skills remains an unresolved issue. Given that I haven't been claiming it makes it a win for me - relatively speaking

sure you do.
because you're wrong. and it's evident from your attempts to cop out of a challenge you brought up that even you know you're wrong. why not just admit your error, and move on?
you know, in middle school and high school, they have these tests now. one of them is the sat. guess what they do? objectively determine reading skill.

Re: my opinion?
Why shouldn't I respond?
At first I was agreeing with your analysis. Then on seeing the full quotes (I don't know if they are correct or not) I changed my mind and think you analysis is wrong because it is based on a wrong quote.
I'll keep flip flopping if the information I'm given proves to need correcting. But as of the last look I think you are wrong.
You didn't correct the last quotes about suffering fools so I presumed they are the correct ones as Arch gave them to me.
Now why would you want to involve me unless you did misread what I had to say?

Re: my opinion?
because you're wrong
Perhaps. But I doubt I'll hear arguments containing the implication "objectively superior reading skills" again after this.
That is sufficient for me. Showing my hand gains me nothing. Were I to 'win' all that would achieve would be your nose getting stuck in a pile off shite. And vice versa were you to 'win'. Neither option strikes me as particularily desirable.

I thought my intention was clear
I read your analysis and agreed with that. I decided to (with limited knowledge) correct Arach.
Arach pointed out that I was using the wrong Biblical quotes. Based on that I changed my opinion. Seems pretty clear to me.
I'm wondering what the heck you are on about though.

Don't worry, the question asked was only tongue in cheek vs literal reading of your post. There are no chips left to play in that particular game.

no, iano, as long as you continue to actively misinterpret the words of the bible, other sources, and members here to mean the opposite of their obvious intended meanings, you will continue to hear about your poor reading skills.
because the rest of us are totally at a loss for your inability to parse to certain simple phrases.
A good poker player quits while he is ahead. Fools gamble everything
see, this is what i mean. you're not ahead. in fact, you're very, very far behind. there's no gamble here for me -- because i can read. you try to twist obvious statements, and reinterpret them into your cockeyed perspective of the world. you have to be doing this on purpose, because there's skill involved here. you're not stupid.

Re: I thought my intention was clear
ahem.
i told you so.
now shall we talk about how you have a habit of reinterpretting peoples' words to mean whatever the heck you want, instead of the obvious implication?

yes, ned, i thought so too. but iano's been in the habit of twisting peoples' words so they appear to agree with his particular preconception. the only difference with you is that you are here to correct his misunderstandings of your words. sadly, god does not speak up very often on to correct peoples' misrendering and perversions of the bible.
i fully understand that people don't always literally mean what they say, but i'm also fairly good at spotting sarcasm and satire. being somewhat practiced in it myself.

Re: my opinion?
you know, of all the times you've played semantics in the last few threads we've debated in, now you choose to not twist a meaning?
surely you could have looked up a definition of "fortune cookie" and found it to be a semi-sweet baked good, containing wisdom. why the sudden lack of inspiration for twisting things into agreeing with you?
"fortune cookie" is a pretty weak insult, especially since i've already tossed a "you hypocrite" or two out in this very thread. of course, i was quoting jesus there, whereas jesus probably never called anyone a fortune cookie.
