Re: Jesus Divinity
Its not so much that Iano loves or does not love his sorry self its more that iano's love for himself is defined by what it is that constitutes healthy self-love. And healthy self-love must be defined by an other in order to be sure it is healthy. For who can safely define self-love for themselves?
My problem is in loving all those others. Many of them are not very lovable, for one thing,
Not by your standard or mine, I agree. If someone comes along though, and shows you just how loveable you are and you find that nigh-on impossible to accept (for you know of your own unlovable-ness - in detail) then it becomes easier. Not simple but easier.
for another thing, I only have so much love in me too pass around. I have to be frugal.
Frugal is someone running on a tank that cannot be internally replenished - like, whoever heard of a tank that is internally replenished. Sure, I can be tight with my love at times. But then he fills the tank again and I'm free to press on the gas again. Externally replenished tanks can run forever

Quite.
If you were to use the word compassion as in be compassionate, view others compassionately, have compassion for the suffering and difficulty of others, or treat others with compassion would that change your feelings in any way?

That's all very well, iano, but if you are like me and have all these good points, it's hard to see past that to the bad stuff. Just to give you a small sample:
1. I have "robust enthusiasm for the wonder of life."
2. I "just try."
3. I have "exemplary moral character."

One is truly fooling oneself in that instance. And they know it.
Did someone actually say 3?! 1 and 2 are easy. But not 3. Never. Not possible. It couldn't be. That's some made up lie like your "I went to a really fantastic college where everyone was made of aluminium" assertion thingy

The claim that morality cannot exist without belief in an archaic mythology is simply false. By my own existence as an atheist and a man of exemplary moral character, my existence (as well as the vast number of moral atheists out there) I disprove the first premise. Thus, the entire argument is invalid.
Ha, ha.

Well I never....
I see no * attached. Love would not reveal the source however much hate would want to revel. Check that out and see for yourself

I don't know about that, but get this, iano: the reason he doesn't post much anymore, he said, was that the Christians were so arrogant.
Ha!

Re: Jesus Divinity
...lest one should think that on becoming a Christian, one's oneness simply disappears. The essential difference is that one wishes it were only so. Call it a paradigm shift.

Re: Jesus Divinity
"one's oneness"?
Does that mean the same thing as "my myness"?

Re: Jesus Divinity
Yeah..sounds kind of "The Tibeten book of Living and Dying" - or some such like doesn't it.
More like: still able to make all decisions one wants (just like in virtual world) but having a reason from another not to make them a certain way. With the nudge always being something you can ignore - but wishing you didn't.
Think of it as your mother telling you to "brush your teeth" then when they start falling out of your head, realising she was making sense.
