Generally, Noah took 2 of each kind of animal.
Can we make a list of all the kinds of animals that Noah collected?
For example, if Noah takes two wolves, will he need to take any dalmations, foxes, dobermans, or coyotes? Or if Noah collected two spiders, will he need to get a turantulas, tics and scorpions? Obviously a couple horses will count for all mules, donkeys, zebras, and ponies.
Noah had a dove and a crow(?) that he released in search of land so he collected different species of birds. How many different kinds of birds did he have? Eagles, falcons, hawks, owls, doves, pigeons, crows, seagulls, pelicans, storks, et cetera. Did Noah have two snakes or did he have two constrictors and two venomous snakes? Or did he have vipers, cobras, rattlers, boas, anacondas, mambas, etc? Mice and rats? Possums? Raccoons?
I'll start the list:
rats
horses
cows
snakes
bears
sheep
dragon/dinosaurs
tigers
lions (since there is hydridization in ligers and tions, are lions and tigers the same kind of animal? Can you see why I need your help?! Also, it should be alphabetized.)
I've searched and I can't find the list anywhere. I just find references to "kinds" of animals.
Can we create a list?

Sorry I was late getting your other thread promoted, but since I just did that, it would probably be best to hold off on this one for a while. As was the case for the other thread, there has already been much discussion of this topic you should consider before your OP is ready for promotion. Here are just a couple of threads on the subject, and if you put "kind" in Search you can find more. If a list could be made, it would have been made by now.
Define Kind
What 'kind" are penguins?

Thank You
I do not mind waiting but I am interested in compiling a list sooner or later.
I understand that there have been several discussions of "kind" and its definition on these boards. I feel that this is a seperate issue but see how the two are related.
If a list could be made, it would have been made by now.
I respectfully disagree. We should not underestimate ourselves. Just because it has not been done or that it is difficult it does not mean that we should not attempt it! What if Lewis & Clark, the Wright Brothers, or NASA followed this same logic?
This list does not have to be perfect or absolute, maybe we can start with a smaller list and add to it as we go along.
Again, you are an admin and know these boards and these debates better than I do. Also, is the reason for waiting that I started a new thread yesterday? If this is so, I submit to you that this thread would belong in a different forum than the other. Ultimately, if you think that we should wait then we should wait. If you think that this question can be rephrased I am open to your advice.
Thank you.

Re: Thank You
I don't know how much time you have to mind two threads, but a bigger reason for holding off on this thread than that you have another one going, is that I don't think you get the situation about the kinds. We can't make a list unless we can define a Kind. What would you be listing? We don't know which animals evolved from the two -- or seven -- that were taken on the ark and weren't represented there as they now exist. Many breeds of cats and dogs and everything else have "evolved" since then. Maybe the dog family was only represented by a couple of wolves from which all subsequent dogs came. The point is we don't know. So how are you going to make a list? I don't mind promoting it but it will be rehashing a lot of old stuff.
{Edit: Tell you what, pick a forum and I'll just promote it and let it be hashed out like all the others.}

Re: Thank You
I understand.
I would like to create a working list with this thread. There does not need to be all that much discussion. For example, I can list all of the animals listed in the bible, alphabetically, and the the person who posts after me can repeat the list adding a couple "kinds" to it. And then the person after them can repeat this process. I do not see minding this thread as being all that time comsuming for me.
I understand that "kind" should be defined first but as you know, there may never be a definition of "kind" because the term is flexible. Maybe making a list will help us flesh this out. Even if there are several disagreements (ex: between anacondas and boas) then we can end up with a range between the most modest and most liberal numbers - "Noah had between 1000 and 15,000 'kinds' of animals on the ark."
Again, I accept your wisdom: If you think we should wait until the other two threads are finished then we should wait. I can wait as long as you like.
Thanks again.
