Re: Be honest here....
Randman writes:
gasby, no, the reason is marriage has always been understood to be a heterosexual union in America, period.
Always? Really? Ever hear of Boston marriages?
Boston marriage was a term used to describe nineteenth-century romantic friendships that included long-term cohabitation. These were emotionally intense and physically tender friendships between women who chose to live with each other instead of marrying.
Source: Forbidden
I recognize that these were not legal marriages, but your statement is "always understood to be..". This shows that Victorian-era America defined at least one long-term cohabitive relationship as a marriage between members of the same sex.
Sorry for again continuing off-topic. I hope this helps. I don't know if Bush said this or not, but question the statement (not even because of who said it, it just sounds like an apocryphal statement). But if he did the all power too him, and I hope he can bring that level of tolerance into the light and effect positive change.

Doctor Bashir: "Of all the stories you told me, which were true and which weren't?"
Elim Garak: "My dear Doctor, they're all true"
Doctor Bashir: "Even the lies?"
Elim Garak: "Especially the lies"

Re: Be honest here....
Randman, I'm going to ask you once to stop. Gay marrriage is not the topic of this thread. The topic is the verification of a statement that it appears impossible for Bush to have actually said without having been fed the line.

Re: Be honest here....
It's within the scope of your OP crash. This is your comment:
It is hard to imagine someone who could extend such a gesture of tolerance to a marginalized person and then turn around and support the Federal Marriage Amendment.
You are saying that no one of tolerance could support the Federal Marriage Amendment, right? So in order to answer your OP, dealing with the issue of gay marriage is relevant, correct?
The simple fact is Bush is reported to quite good at quick, insightful statements in private, very good in fact, and so there is no reason whatsoever to think he was fed the line.

No, it isn't relevant. There's another thread for gay marriage; take your arguments over there.

Reported by who? Is this the same kind of reporting that reported that he was fluent in Spanish?

Bush is paying the price in brain damage
quote:
It may be he just freezes up in front of the camera and has a phobia there.
He had no trouble speaking in front of large groups or cameras in the past.
I've seen this video of him during the Texas governor's race in a televised debate with Ann Richards, then contrasted with a presidential debate and press conference performance 10 years later.
He is not only coherent 10 years ago but is downright articulate. He is able to string long sentences together into entire paragraphs that convey fairly complex ideas. He is energetic and confident and dynamic. He also clearly has memorized a great deal of information and he never refers to notes. IOW, he appears to have his shit together
It's really quite strikingly different to how utterly awful a public speaker he is, and has been for his entire presidential career.
Those who know about such things suspect he has some brain damage that is common in people who drink heavily for many years. The condition that he seems to show symptoms is called presenile dementia.

Re: Bush is paying the price in brain damage
Well, something seems to be going on, whether stage fright, dementia, or perhaps illness and stress or who knows. I have seen him once on C-span where he was unscripted and looked great, and that was last year, but most of the time, it seems like he can barely give a speech in front of a camera. It's amazing that a guy with such poor communication skills could not be beaten by the dems.
I credit to the fact most of the nation just rejects higher taxes and liberalism in general.

Are you under the mistaken impression that I would believe anything that you say? Seriously?
Evidence, Randman. I realize that it doesn't exist for most of your assertions but you could at least attempt to provide some.

Me too. Voters in America sure are dumb.

No.
It's that the Republican base always votes, and they hate fags.
The Republicans rather brilliantly made that the main election issue.
Also, most Americans are very middle of the road and moderate.
But the Republican voters tend to be single issue voters.
Generally, abortion or fags.

Re: Be honest here....
Crash, my experience with you is that no amount of evidence can sway you at all. Heck, I provided all sorts of evidence, convictions, etc,....of the DNC taking bribes from China (even they admit it but claim they were merely illegal donations), and you act like it never happened.

Yeah, but all of those fence sitters need to see your evidence, rand.
That's why I provide my links to sources in my posts to you.
I would never dream that you would actually address the evidence directly or consider it honestly, but there are lurkers who might.

It didn't happen. Sorry, it didn't. Maybe your browser is eating posts? Because I certainly didn't see any evidence, just allegations - your own, and those of others.
Crash, my experience with you is that no amount of evidence can sway you at all.
Funny, my experience with you is that you never provide any. I wonder why that's the case?

I think he just confused as to whether he/she started out as a man or a woman... I know I did.
