Theist, Atheist, or Agnostic
There has been some arguing in another thread about whether or not theists outnumber atheists on EvC.
Without subscribing to "labels," I thought that it would be best if we simply answer whether or not you ascribe yourself as being an atheist or a theist. To be clear and concise, just state whether subscribe to atheism, agnosticism or theism; atheist, agnostic or theist.
Vote now.... Every vote counts.

Poll
Actually I wasn't "arguing"--just not sure.
I didn't mean arguing in a negative way, and it was Purple Youko, or whatever her/his name is that made the assumption.
What about agnostics? Can we throw them into the atheist camp for all practical purposes?
Yes, and I'm disheartened that I left it out. Absolutely. It would only be fair to include agnostics.

Re: So far so good, but spread the word to all EvC'ers
You didn't include an option of: none of your business. I suspect that is one reason why people might be staying away from the thread. You're not getting an accounting of the beliefs present here, just an accounting of those willing to declare their beliefs.
Its a general question. I didn't approach you and ask you. So if you wanna be emo and don't want to participate, then don't. Anyone that does is more than welcome.

Nihilism
Thank you. Now in my view, which admittedly is tentative, nihilism makes the most sense. It is very reasonable. I'm sure you wouldn't disagree with that.
I respect your decision, but I don't think its a sensible belief. If a nihilist is incapable of 'knowing' that 'knowledge' is unattainable, then how does he have the knowledge to 'know' that knowledge is unattainable? That's a non-sequitur. I mean, it sounds like the most impartial belief, but for the reason I listed alone, the logic breaks down.

Re: This is what we've got so far: Oh Yeah?
Sorry but I cannot find where Ringo said he was an Agnostic or where I said anything about my beliefs in this thread.
You told me about two weeks ago that you are a Christian. As well, somebody said that you were discussing theology with them and because of your testimony that he was beginning to lean more towards theism. I didn't think it would matter one way or the other. Would you prefer that I remove you from the list? As far as Ringo, I will take him off the list if he requests it. Ringo stated that he was undecided. That's as close to Agnosticism as we could get. But if he has an objection, I'll remove him and you. I can place you in the "None of our buisness" bracket. Just let me know.
If you are just going to assign membership on your own why ask folk to vote or select?
You assigned yourself the day that you told me you were a Christian. Are reneging?

Re: Swing Vote
the way I understood it, a theist believes and is sure of their belief.
An agnostic is unsure or unconvinced yet remains open minded.
An atheist has decided that there is no God and rejects theistic absolutes and uncertainties.
So...why do the agnostics get to be in the atheist camp? They are a third category.
I agree. I mean, is it true that probably most agnostics tend to lean towards an atheistic viewpoint? Perhaps. But this is not the rule, its the exception. So many of us at some point find ourselves in a spiritual limbo until we decide that there is a God or there isn't a God; therefore, agnostics should definately get their own bracket, IMO.

Re: This is what we've got so far: Oh Yeah?
It seems you don't understand what a poll is.
To be included in a poll you have to indicate an opinion or preference as a part of the polling process.
What somebody says or does outside of the polling process shouldn't be used to infer what their response is.
If they don't vote they don't get counted (except in Florida possibly ).
Alright, roger that. I will remove Jar, Ringo, Quetzel and Youko from the list.

Re: This is what we've got so far: Oh Yeah?
Nonsense. I can be equally close to all four official categories. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you don't care one way or the other and sometimes you just don't want to be bothered.
Fair enough, I removed you from the list.
robin voted for me - on this side of the border, that's illegal. I didn't protest because I didn't want to waste any more posts on the subject (and I don't want to see robin go to jail).
Yeah, please don't press charges. He meant well.
But since you bring it up: why can't I have my own category, like Dr.Jones?
You could call it "Ringo - in a class by himself"
Noted good sir. Its as good as done.
