I have often wondered if atheists here find it difficult in their locality to speak out as being a non believer in the general public or if they find that they are ostrasized by family or friends and just how they feel about that.
No, I don't.
In fact, the reverse is true. In England, you are much more likely to receive a negative response for coming out as actively religious than you are for either being apathetic about religion or actively
not religious.
I know this, because I've done both over the years.
