(Moderators: I really don't know where this goes, although I'm very interested to see how board members will respond.)
The research of Hans Eysenck uncovered dimensions of political values which appear to underlie differences in people's acceptance of evolution vs. creationism, and these can be measured with an inventory found online here:
childrenofmillennium.org -
Acceptance of evolution was found to be a Tough, Radical value, while acceptance of Creationism was a Tender, Conservative value; this means that a person's opinion on the evolution debate is diagnostic of opinions on seemingly unrelated issues (traveling without a ticket, or the legalization of marijuana).
Anyone care to post their scores on the test, along with their position on the evolution debate?

Scores
According to this test, I am a radical.
Radicalism 65%, Tenderness 50%, Socialism 55%, political profile of a university professor.
Politically, I am a Syndico-anarchist Libertarian so one would think I would be considered a bit more radical than the test would indicate

US-centric
Separation of Church and State has gone too far in this country.
What is 'this country'? Is it my country, or the US where the issue of Seperation of Church and State is an issue?
quote:
Radicalism: 71 percent
Tenderness: 41 percent
Socialism: 30 percent
These scores indicate that you are a radical; this is the political profile one might associate with a university professor. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a generally optimistic attitude towards humanity in general.
To round out the picture, your attitudes towards economics appear capitalist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as libertarian.
And for the record, I am often called evolutionist. Which means I accept the Theory of Evolution as a good explanatory framework for describing biological change. I also accept that the evidence for common descent is overwhelming enough to be considered a fact beyond any doubt.

Your scores:
Radicalism: 62 percent
Tenderness: 44 percent
Socialism: 65 percent
These scores indicate that you are a radical; this is the political profile one might associate with a university professor. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a generally optimistic attitude towards humanity in general.
To round out the picture, your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as left-wing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
for the record im inclined to the ToE side of the debate
---------------------------------------------------------------------
i do love these test .. mainly because a old university friend works for a company who right such tests and suverys for the bussiness world .. ooh the tales she can tell of how to link questions to get desired out puts , and that any of less than 1000 questions is a poor measure except in the most losseist terms .
hmm odd to see all uni profs as radicals
and i am not skeptical towards religion i have very definat veiws and beliefs
im normaly accuesd of having a pessimistic view of humanity
i am neither committedly capitalist nor socialist as i see how both fail
my social attitudes are normaly refered to as a extreme right wing -anachist with unrealistic expectations
ho hum odd is me ).....

Crazy
I clicked 'strongly agree' to everything and came out as a moderate. The questions include: God created the World, Sex outside of marriage is wrong, refugees should fend for themselves and God is a figment of our imagination I'm pro-choice but think that there should more laws restricting abortion.
Surely I should be labelled insane, not moderate. The same happens if I choose the middle answer for all the questions.

For what it's worth, here are my scores. (I seems that Nosy Ned has the closest scores to mine.)
Radicalism: 89 percent
Tenderness: 39.5 percent
Socialism: 42 percent
These scores indicate that you are a tough-minded radical; this is the political profile one might associate with a liberated atheist. It appears that you are cynical towards religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.
To round out the picture, your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as left-wing.

Re: Crazy
This makes perfect sense, mod.
The questions go to either end of the scale, so if you select "strongly agree" for all of them, you should come up in the middle, as it takes an average.

My political dimensions
Radicalism: 56 percent
Tenderness: 51.5 percent
Socialism: 38 percent
Gosh... Im kinda a radical????
According to the poll, im not, though.
These scores indicate that you are a moderate; this is the political profile one might associate with a regular person. It appears that you are neutral towards religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.
To round out the picture, your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

Interesting, in that I would have thought of myself as more "tender", as they describe it. I never considered myself as all that "practical" or "pragmatic". Maybe I'm getting old.

Well Chiroptera, are you an evolutionist or a creationist? If you are an evolutionist, your radicalism would be expected to exceed your tender-mindedness, and that is indeed how you scored (95 vs 44).
quote:
Maybe I'm getting old.
I think people grow more tender as they age - or else, the studies investigating the interactions between tenderness and age merely revealed cohort effects.
Have any creationists yet taken the poll?
