Re: Question to Evc
Doesn't hurt to be a Bible lateralist either.
Certainly not. Far better than being a Bible Contortionist, Delusionalist, Illusionist...
So you're giving that up? Good to hear.
(Ever read anything by Edward de Bono?)
Never 'eard of 'em m8.
He invented the term "lateral thinking".
Ever listened to U2's Bono?
Never 'eard of 'em m8.
So, how's the campaign going to just say "no" to EvC? I see you still can't resist me.

I'm sure someone invented the term 'sex'. But by definition people didn't need the term in order to engage in the activity

Quite well actually. I thought it would be harder than it is. However, the bible says we should feed on milk before meat. I take its advice in general so I looked around a bit

When you enjoy a task, it has meaning enough.
How can you take such enjoyment in meaningless tasks that were created for you to partake in by other humans, by humans who were thinking about money, and greed, and efficiency?
Please save yourself from it, you still can.

I dont mean to sound like a hypocritical idealist, but I am trapped in the system!
Phat, you know what you have to do man. It's bullshit man, it's just numbers, screw the money, run man, do something, you're not helpless... Humans weren't meant to have financial lives, it's an evil construct built upon the primitive workings of greed within humanity, it sounds cliche but you can free yourself from it all. You can transcend it.

The kind of freedom you are thinking of could only exist by yourself, or in heaven, yet you desire this freedom co-existing with other people. Our current nation is the by-product of freedom. The fact that we can walk into a supermarket and buy just about any kind of food we want, instead of laboring to grow our own, is a freedom expressed through society. Think of all the benifits that we get to enjoy because of our freedom. But we must work to attain them. All the things you think are your freedoms being taken away from you are actually the bu-products of those very freedoms, compounded by living with others on this earth.
I don't care about the benefits, you can have mine.

I disagree. I think the most important question ever asked is "Does God exist?"
Once you realize that a God must exist, you can only ask why he would create us.
If you don't believe in God, you still want to know why we are in this abyss.
To me God is. That was the easiest question, but it was very important at one point in my life I guess.

Nietzsche was disgraced at the way humans have slipped into mediocrity, this thread makes it very apparent. And it's so sad. It's depressing. Many of you can't even turn back. I suppose that in some ways it IS sad. Why does it have to be sad, though?
It is true that I am shackled do a nine to five. (usually more like 330-midnite) I enjoy talking with people, however. Of course I know some of the people that I work with, and we occasionally have very fun and funny days at work.
On my days off, I have my volunteer work. There are some joys associated with that. Like today. Jaime called...it is his last year of school....he just got back from Cali and has many stories to tell. He is the first member of his family to graduate and he may even go on to college.
Yes, I was in college. I had some young idealist friends....maybe somewhat similar to you...I dunno. They confidantly talked of many of the ideas and ideologies that they had learned. One of them, Mitchell, was a communist and proud of it.
But it takes money to do everything. It took money to get Mitchell into college.
It takes money to live...to buy equipment! (By the way, once you learn to have a mixing board on your computer, you can selectively redo your tracks and they will sound even more awesome!)
But it takes money.
You have the soul of an artist. Perhaps you should make a song about being shackled to the system.

Look at some of the challenges in other lives.
  • A single parent stuck with kids. They cant run. Its like your Father. Look at all he has sacrificed so that you can have a room and a place to play. Yet he is to be respected. Not pitied!
  • People in concentration camps had horrible existances. Yet many survived and went on to become great novelists and artists. The genius in their expression was forged in extreme circumstances.
I guess that I dont see it the way that you do. You are almost 18 and poised to be able to strike out on your own. Freedom is cherished so much by you right now.
I remember when I was 18. My Dad set me down and had one of those talks. I can remember it to this day, for he died shortly thereafter.
He said "So....you are 18 and you think you know it all...."
At the time, I really didnt think that I knew it all, yet in retrospect, I thought that I knew enough.
Now...years later, I realize how different I am from then. I never know enough.
My guess is that you have a big fear of being stuck. Stuck in a job. Stuck in the city. Stuck in the system.
Its a healthy fear. Maybe you and your Father have had similar discussions...maybe he feels trapped but can't get out.
The reality of college is that college costs money.
The reality of life is that life costs money.
A person does not have to remain shackled in their minds, however.
Music, Poetry, Prose, and expression are some of the ways that we can escape the misery!

Everybody slips into mediocrity. Actually, most of us don't have to "slip." We're already there.
