quote: Long ago I decided to give my life to search of knowledge. To the understanding of God. To truth. Salvation is a common term for it. More recently I have also decided to give my life to my guitar, to music. To pursue this, my brother and I have been working on some quite promising material, we will begin this coming week to do open mics furiously until we feel that we can move on to bigger gigs, which we have connections with from previous efforts in a rock band. I guess I want to show you guys that I am not going to be mediocre, I really am going to be something good. I'm not a hypocrite who can type this stuff from a computer, I really am working on it. It's lame to "prove myself" to an internet community, but I have enjoyed much of my time here, and it has helped me develop ideas more coherently, and to form stronger arguments for my ideas. The debates have given me some good stuff. There will come a time when this forum might not exist, and when the oldies here are long gone, and when the younger crowd is as old as they were. The contribution that has been made to the indivuduals who post here is really something special. Thanks a lot to everyone here, I think it has helped me grow I guess, with my beliefs and everything. And this isn't a farewell, but I think about these things sometimes, about when Percy and Jar, and Phat, and RAZ'd, and Buzsaw, and all these guys are far too old to type. I can still remember all of you guys, DC85, Rrhain, mike the wiz, Lam, schraf, crashfrog, Nosyned, rei, mr hamrbe, Brian, the young creationist from florida, mark24, dan carroll, berberry, mammothus, robinrohan, pink sasquatch, asgara, holmes, nwr, truecreation, yaro, mick, loudmouth minnemoose, quetzal sidelined, lizardbrain, irishrochhound, paulk, tal, kendyemer, and the list goes on. I've been here a long time posting, used to make topics with answers and genesis copy and pastes, and evidence from Dr. Hovind. Prophecyexclaimed, and Iron Man were my old names. But yeah, crazy stuff. All I can do is thank God my mom's swedish--I know the language fairly fluently--enough so to just barely pass as a swede. What's really cool, is that my university offers it. Only problem is, if I do go down that route, I've got to pick an area to focus on--and swedish will only cover western europe.
My Universtiy's pretty good about the language thing--in fact, we've got, in the arts and sciences, a core, consisting of math, critical writing, ideas/values, gender/culture, natural sciences, literature, and language. I've also taken five years of spanish in high school--problem is, I just cannot remember the language. After that, I decided to stick with gernamic, but who knows. All a man's knowledge comes from his experiences

quote: I never wanted a perfect parent. I just wanted one who was interested in me. I needed help growing up and I hardly ever got any. Neither one of my parents was even close to being emotionally healthy (sounds like yours weren't either, to be sure) so they either ignored me or controlled me. I think it's amzing and wonderful that you broke the cycle.

quote: Yes. Furthermore, you are accepting the benefits of mass production/capitalism/greed/exploitation while simultaneously telling all of us to "get out of the system, it's not too late". You are constantly, every second of every day, benefiting from mass production/capitalism/greed/exploitation while advocating for it's complete revesal. Why shouldn't I note that? Yes, it is a "simple" question, but isn't it a perfectly natural one to ask you? Why don't you follow your own philosophy?
quote: I have never been angry. I've just been blunt.
quote: Are you saying that, for all of it's flaws, capitalism results in less struggling to survive? You can't have it both ways.
quote: I think nothing of the sort. What I do think is that if you denounce capitalism as a throughly terrible thing and advise all of us to "get out of the system", then you should be the first to do so.
quote: But capitalism is altogethyer evil and wrong, isn't it? You shouldn't support it if you think that, yet you do support it. And I'd live for you to talk to the people at the Martin factory and lecture them about the triviality and meaninglessness of their jobs.
quote: LOL! Of course you wouldn't. But what would you call a guy who advocates that it's very important that everybody else except for him reject the economic system they are in? Everybody else should do as he says, not as he does. If everybody did as you said, you'd have to make your own guitar.
quote: Er, OK. What does this have to do with the contradiction in what you advocate and how you live?
quote: Yeah. Another plane. Sure. LOL! Edited by schrafinator, : No reason given. "Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends! Think long and hard of what that lifestyle entails and you'll realize it's quite the opposite of what you've said.

The professional musican's lifestyle involves selling. Selling tickets, selling recordings, selling sheet music. Selling food and drinks by drawing a crowd to the restaurant that hired you for the gig.
It's a business. A noble business when done right. But a business nonetheless. No one has 'left the system' just because he stands behind a mike on Friday night instead of sitting behind a desk on Monday morning. That's trivia. And to succeed in that business normally takes a more uplifting message than 'All of you are mediocre and trivial and stupid, kiss my ass.' Not much of an audience for that. I wish you well in making art that exalts everyone, not just the artist. Edited by Archer Opterix, : Concision. Edited by Archer Opterix, : Revision. Archer All species are transitional.

You two need to grow up. here is somethings you'll need to know. 1) Royalties , lets see whats involved shall we. You'll have to copyright your songs with the Library of Congress. now there are many forms of copyright licenses compulsory, statutory royalty rate, shared copyrights(also sample compository), and transfer of copyrights 2) Then there is the players songwriters, publisher, performer, recording company/label, performing rights organization. mechanical rights agencies.. royalties 3) forms of royalties mechanical rights and royalties so you can reproduce music on a medium, performing rights and royalties you want your music played on the radio or maybe you tube right, synchronized rights and royalties maybe theres a movie that wants your song in it these is even needed for aired snippets, print rights and royalties the songwriter and publisher need their money. You made need to get foreign rights and royalty for some countries. The songwriter and publisher split the mechanical royalties 50/50, they also get the performance royalties split the same way for songs given air play( radio, restaurants, or bars) Guess what, as a recording artist you are paid 5-10% of sales. sound good? read on. a 15 dollar cd thats sells one mi. you will get 1,012,500 , so far so good. Now you were given an advance when you signed your contract that is subtracted from that amount(recoupment). The recording cost, promotional and marketing cost, tour cost and video music cost. Yeah the record company fronts the money, you will pay it back! It usually works like this recording cost=300,000, music video cost 400,000 so you pay 200,000,tour cost 200,000 you pay 100,000. Thats $800,000 subtract that from 1,012,500=$ 212,500 ,good nah pay you manager his 20%. That leaves $170,000 to be divided among all members. Another fct, you pay the recoprding company back before you see any money! This is just the beginning. All your post prove neither of you think it through. Edited by alacrity fitzhugh, : spell check

Just out of curiousity, is Jesus a person? Is He an idea or is He a distinct personality, in your belief? Finally, does The Holy Spirit (which has no gender specificity) manifest through others or does the Spirit manifest only through Christ? I understand the meaninglessness of most purposes, especially those under systems like capitalism. But then again with any system there are trivialities that must be entertained to continue to exist. I am less interested in government, and society lately because I am more interested in truth and Jesus. Jesus, meaning everything that is good and righteous in the world, and in my life, and transcendence. Im bringing this up because of other conversations regarding the gender of God. I appreciate your input, Charlie. You are gonna hafta write me a song someday!

quote: I don't need to "think long and hard" about it. It's not called "the recording industry" by mistake. It's an industry. A business. You will have to sell yourself if you want to be successful. Marketing is all, pretty much. In fact, other than TV and movie acting, I really cannot think of a business that is more cuthroat, merciless, unforgiving, and shallow than the pop music business. Here's some more great lyrics. Wonder if you know the band?
Have A Cigar
Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar. You're gonna go far, fly high, You're never gonna die, you're gonna make it if you try;they're gonna love you. Well I've always had a deep respect, and I mean that most sincerely. The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think. Oh by the way, which one's Pink? And did we tell you the name of the game, boy we call it Riding the Gravy Train. We're just knocked out. We heard about the sell out. You gotta get an album out, You owe it to the people. We're so happy we can hardly count. Everybody else is just green, have you seen the chart? It's a helluva start, it could be made into a monster if we all pull together as a team. And did we tell you the name of the game, boy we call it Riding the Gravy Train.
