How about just make one up? Or 'reveal the divine inspiration' that you've secretly been storing. That way, you can have a belief that caters to your own personal needs. I, personally (being a shortsighted act utilitarian) would have all the nasty longterm consequences of my sometimes dubious short term pleasures removed in the afterlife. God, of course, would be Kim Basinger reincarnate and all other mortals would become my servants (except for various personal friends). I also would like to believe that I am the dauphin.

The most attractive belief of all, to me, is reincarnation.

Yeah. I'd like to believe that one too.

Reincarnation? Which means after one left this cruel world he/she would return to suffer again?
Evil concept, I think.

Immortality, I think. See, I have thought about suffering and have come to the conclusion that the major cause of my suffering is that I don't have enough time. This is what causes me stress. Reincarnation fixes that problem. Of course this presupposes a continuation of consciousness and memory; otherwise, it would be pointless.

You suffer from lack of time? Well, it's your opinion. Mine is that we suffer from craving.

yes. To be immortal would be a great birthday present. If i were immortal, the first thing i'd do, would be to buy a ticket to barbados, find a deserted island and embark on a thousand year project to build my own civilisation from scratch.

I'd join the ninja religion, because ninjas are REAL ULTIMATE POWER!
Ok, not really. But I do think religions with their own martial arts are kinda neat. It'd be cool if Christian monks had to study Shaolin Fist or something...
But ultimately I don't see what I could get from religion that I couldn't get as an astute observer of human behavior...

Suffering? and then a religion...
If you are a "live your life"'r like me there really is no absolute suffering. I'm happy being alive. Any experience I digest, good or bad, is ultimately good simply because I exist to experience it. Now don't get me wrong, I like some experiences more than others. A good roll in the hay is always preferable to a sharp stick in the eye. But, the fact that I'm here to get poked in the eye means I'm still here to poke others while in the hay.

Which religion?
Seeing as there are an almost infinite number of possible gods, anything I adhere to has an equal chance of being correct. (If a god actually exists, that is) So I would at first believe in a God that doesn't expect me to believe in him. Then I'd follow his lead and continue being an atheist.

Re: Which religion?
You'd follow his lead and continue being an atheist? Does that mean that this God that you don't believe in doesn't believe in himself either?
I could understand an agnostic God, who is uncertain of his own existence, but an atheist one? The mind boggles!
Anyhow, how do you follow the lead of something you don't believe exists?
Mike.
