I saw that, the first sentence made me laugh
Defense attorneys said it's a case of a Pensacola couple's ignorance of the law and their religious beliefs.
Yep, even their defense attorneys are saying that Hovind and his wife are ignorant of their own religious beliefs
Anyway, more news.
Two people who worked for a Pensacola evangelist testified Wednesday in federal court that they didn't consider where they worked to be a church.

Hovind has maintained his innocence. "I still don’t understand what I’m being charged for and who is charging me," he said. Magistrate Miles Davis asked Hovind if he wrote and spoke English, to which Hovind responded "To some degree". *

How much porridge?
Anyone got any idea how long Hovind could be locked up for if found guilty?

Did you read the forum comments below in the link, how the government has defrauded us all regarding the income taxes? Maybe we should all cry about that. Don't forget that there was a time before government began running out of control that the nation got along just fine without income taxes. States rule/rights was once how this nation was run for safety of federal government oppression as we see around the world.
Maybe we need a few more Kent Hovinds around to keep the feds (abe: honest) and remind us about reigning in top heavy government.

What?
So how is Hovind patriotically supporting the Iraq War, and indeed war on terror, by not paying his taxes?
So how were the majority of Americans better off when states rights reigned supreme prior to the Civil War?
Please feel free to answer in, or start, a more appropriate thread for these questions.

Maybe we need a few more Kent Hovinds around to keep the feds (abe: honest) and remind us about reigning in top heavy government.
First let the Kent Hovinds be honest.
Until then they make too eloquent a case themselves for more thorough oversight.

6000 years sounds about right...parole in 4000 if Joseph pays his taxes.

Did you read the forum comments below in the link, how the government has defrauded us all regarding the income taxes?
Yes, I did. Did you notice how the arguments proffered were all complete rubbish?
The Sixteenth Amendment hasn't been ratified? Oh yes it has. Ask a judge.
The IRS doesn't define "employer"? I bet they don't say what the meaning of "is" is, either.
Maybe we should all cry about that. Don't forget that there was a time before government began running out of control that the nation got along just fine without income taxes. States rule/rights was once how this nation was run for safety of federal government oppression as we see around the world.
We see federal government oppression around the world, do we?
I must have missed that.
Look, do the rest of the world a favor. Even though you believe us to be "oppressed" by our "federal governments", PLEASE DO NOT LIBERATE US.
Thank you.
Maybe we need a few more Kent Hovinds around to keep the feds (abe: honest) and remind us about reigning in top heavy government.
Yeah, and while he's at it he can remind us that "democracy is evil and contrary to God's law." *
I'm not sure what he has in mind as a substitute, but we Brits still have a royal family, and would be happy to restore the status quo ante bellum. There'll be no income tax, but we'll charge a duty on tea.

PaulK,
What's Hovind looking at if found guilty? Tax fraud here in the UK is almost a mandatory prison sentence.

Buz,
Why are you even defending this guy? He's broken the law, & that merits a punishment. Your precious society that is so beat upon by the government wouldn't function without taxation.

I don't know U.S. tax law, but I've seen it suggested 2-3 years jail time, unless they ignore the sentencing guidelines. Or more if they really throw the book at him and have him serve consecutive sentences.

Hi Buz,
Your interesting position on federal taxes aside, while it is only the IRS that is after Hovind at present, keep in mind that he has not been paying unemployment or social security taxes for his employees, either. This means they may face difficulties attempting to collect unemployment benefits if/when they lose their jobs at DinoLand, and it means their social security benefits will be less when they retire.
If Richard Feynmann or Albert Einstein was still alive and saying and doing the things Hovind is doing regarding paying employees and taxes, I would call him a scoundrel. But Hovind isn't a scoundrel to you. Interesting.

I'm not sure of how much jail time.
I would expect the main outcome would be to allow the IRS to identify all of Hovind's hidden assets, and seize them.
