I expect that lots of evc members received that. It is from our newest member (already banned). See Message 49, Message 129 and Message 130. To comment on moderation procedures or respond to admin messages:

I noticed that after I posted it--the who's banned thread. I was going to make a comment there, but you apparently have to be an admin to post in it.

do these spammers understand basic grammar? Usually, yes they do. The poor grammar and such is frequently a direct attempt to generate feelings of sympathy and superiority in the reader to make them think they could take the author for a ride.

Less now as more people have an awareness of these ”Nigerian’ Fraud attempts. But in the beginning when these first started, some city types who are used to large transactions such as these and also used to dealing with the African nations on slightly less than level deals (Yes they do happen) would have seen these as opportunities. Greed and an over familiarity with moving LARGE sums of money around led some to fall for this kind of scam.
Today most people are aware of what these schemes actually are and simply avoid them. Edited by ohnhai, : No reason given.

In my opinion, evcforum should be more cautious about making email addresses available. I'd suggest that seeing email addresses should require that a member has made enough posts to graduate from "junior member" status - with a possible exception for admin email addresses. Even better would be a forum page where you type in your email message to another member, allowing email without exposing the email address. In the meantime, it is very likely that spammer tatiana has signed up yet a third time, but at present the evidence seems a bit thin for suspending the apparent new incarnation.

Another solution is having our own "private message" system where one member can exchange private messages via forum. If members wish to exchange emails, phone numbers, dogs, etc. they can then do so through the private message system.

I get some seriously weird ones. I think they must be generated to dodge the increasingly sophisticated spam filtering techniques. This one I selected at random from the 888 spams in my gmail spam folder. The sentences are occasionally repeated but seem on the whole to be chosen at random from various online sources. Its quite representative, and contains some gems. I have put the bits that made me laugh in bold for your convenience:
Rosalie Potts writes: Not the computer: A GRILL THAT IS THE NEXT GRILLERATION OF TECHNOLOGY. Everyone hits their finishers in a great sequence and it was fun. They tried to get clever at the end with the bone joke and it just fell flat. I am looking forward to working with them. Yes, I hate when I accidentally set off a nuclear weapon.Typically, I need to post at least three messages every two weeks to maintain a positive average. They have hired help. That or I was wearing socks. For starters, they completely ignored the whole Rep Mark Foley scandal and instead went with a tame President Bush sketch that really lacked teeth. You really have to watch an asian soap opera to get some of the shots and the minor jokes. It was a simple premise but at least they did the physical humor with gusto. I think Canada is going to do much better than Togo this year. The lead singer in the Killers first song sounded awful and off-key. There was no faux personal analysis or revelations of any kind. The No Deal sketch made me laugh. They feel better with the joke-joke-joke approach and it gets them loud and responsive early one. The woman, is adopted and married to a Doctor in a loveless relationship. One doctor seems pretty clueless and the other one just left town for a week. It will be an interesting and eventful day. Can you taste the suspense? Subject titles can be outright strange. Keep this in mind everyone. I am looking forward to working with them. Save us a spot for Dinner! I hope to read that book sometime in the future. The weather is nice and I hope to find something nifty to bring back to Alissa who has been challenged lately with health and peacefulness. For starters, they completely ignored the whole Rep Mark Foley scandal and instead went with a tame President Bush sketch that really lacked teeth. You had Bill Clinton, Condi Rice, Dustin Diamond and I think one more. There are clubs that meet after classes, er, during lunch. God Bless the UK listeners! Joining them in a combination of factors: experience, right timing for auditions, class start dates, grooming habits and spelling competition. I asked for a map of it and basically was denied. We were advertising noodles. We were advertising noodles. Keep this in mind everyone. If you ever had a question about auto insurance, feel free to ask it. The family is vaguely wealthy though appear to have fallen out of prosperity. Not the computer: A GRILL THAT IS THE NEXT GRILLERATION OF TECHNOLOGY. If anything, SNL should be the place to take a potshot at yourself not do eight minutes about California Drivers and Whacky Suicides. As I said, very weird. I wonder which endeavour Canada is expected to beat Togo at this year. The mind boggles.

My sentiments exactly. They are very funny though. My favourites are the ones selling viagra and other sex drugs. I'll see if I can find a good one now...
Gonzalo Francis writes: Good day to you Sir! Would you like to please your lovely partner completely? World’s greatest brands produce these goods in top class labs with latest technologies. Gonzalo Francis The key words? Plentiful explosions! Eeech... I didn't realise that's what sex was all about.

There's chat spam, too. Anyone else getting this one:
Or maybe it's real. Maybe I really should click on that link or risk losing my Yahoo account. Hmmm. --Percy
