We've hit paydirt on the world of work. The consensus had to come somewhere.Was telephone interviewing with a medical device company today (read American multi-national - and no I don't take drugs). I nearly shat myself. I'd go from me, the engineering manager with a gaggle of fitters/electricians etc to me with 5 degree qualified engineers under me who each had a gaggle of fitter/electricians under them and a shed load of American VP's of this, that and the other above me.All for 7000 per year more. About $12,000 or so. Double it and it wouldn't be enough to get me to work for them. The Yanks have about the worst employment conditions of anybody I know. Lest I sound ungrateful. A $12,000 raise here is a relative drop in the ocean. You have to take the cost of living into account. I have a yank mate who says you can buy a 1700 sq ft house in a reasonable part of town (North Carolina) for $150,000. Here that house in that location would cost $500,000.

I remember coming out of college in England and all the jobs where in British Areospace and Vickers - making weapons.
