And you didn't think there was a GOD
Couldn't happen to a nicer man. Maybe a few years as Bubba's Bitch may change his point of view.

Club Fed?
I also would not wish the experience of the US penal system on anyone.
He would probably only get sent to Club Fed, and that life doesn't sound too bad. While there he could probably get tips on how to better shield his wealth from the IRS.
I'd just like to be in a position where I could withdraw $400 from some account, much less $400K. LOL

What is your point?
Guns that belong to the church? WTF?
Why to you show surprise?
quote:
And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy."

Re: Hovind's trial delayed
Hovind's trial has been delayed till Oct 17th.
Ah, an auspicious day.
On October 17
  • The Reagan Administration got $100,000,000.00 allocated to fund the Contras in the overthrow of the Nicaraguan government.
  • OPEC enacted the Oil Embargo.
  • French police massacred 200 Algerians during a march in Paris.
  • the earthquake hits San Francisco.

Not just the IRS
Your interesting position on federal taxes aside, while it is only the IRS that is after Hovind at present, keep in mind that he has not been paying unemployment or social security taxes for his employees, either.
It is not just the IRS. Hovind also refused to get building permits or construction safety inspections for all the construction in building Dino Land.
from this link
Owners of the park, which shows how dinosaurs may have roamed the Earth just a few thousand years ago, did not obtain a building permit before constructing the building in 2002. They have argued in and out of court that it violates their "deeply held" religious beliefs, and that the church-run facility does not have to obtain permits.

I'm not selling him short as stupid either.
Oh, he's not stupid. After all he gets all the suckers to pony up the sheckels. It is not the conmen that are stupid.

So Subbie, you think you're apprised enough on tax law to do what Hovind's been doing for decades and remain free doing it as long as he has?
So cheating is okay if you don't get caught?

As usual, Jar, you either spin or miss my point, being that if he got by for decades he likely was not breaking the law. Otherwise the law would've likely busted him long ago.
Just so the audience does not think I am spinning your comments, I will just let that quote of yours stand.
LOL

why not RICO
I still don't know why he is not being treated as a Criminal Enterprise under the RICO statutes.

What great news.
Fantastic news. May he be sentenced to all 288 years to be served consecutively. And may his wife get all 225 also to be served consecutively.
Maybe by the time they get out the public will be educated enough to not be taken in by such conmen.

How about the employees they shafted?
Will they be required to pony up all the back taxes and FICA for their employees? Can the state take the property and sell it, using the proceeds to pay the back taxes?

Re: What great news.
Let me try to explain just why I hope they set an example with Hovind.
The charge is he failed to pay employee taxes. This is not just cheating on HIS money, he endangered the welfare and retirement of his employees. Their social security got reduced. Their unemployment taxes didn't get paid. Their retirement funds got redirected.
And he did this out of greed.
In addition, this crook, this conman, is teaching others. He is out there preaching ignorance and lawlessness.
Had he simply stepped up and ponied up to the bar, admitted he was a fraud, offered to make amends, paid the back taxes owed I would have applauded him. But he didn't.
Part of the duty of being a Christian is to try to do what is right, and when you screw up, admit it, try to make amends and try to do better in the future.

What about the employees?
I have still not been able to find out if anything will be done to protect his employees. While it mentions confiscating $430,000.00 (honestly, how many members at EvC could have $430,000.00 confiscated? If they tried that with me a figure closer to $430.00 might, depending on the time of the month, be possible.), it doesn't say anything about the income tax liability or FICA payments and contributions that his employees are liable for.
If, like good citizens they each declared their cash payments and paid taxes on them the employees will have no outstanding liabilities, but if not, those folk too will face paying back taxes and penalties. But even more than that, what Hovind INC did hurt their futures. By not paying into their Social Security accounts he has reduced their potential retirement possibilities.
The amount in the charges was $845,000 in employee-related taxes. That is employees only. The $430,000.00 that was ordered confiscated, even if collected, is still not enough to cover those employee related taxes.

Seizure of all assets including land, buildings, vehicles and bank accounts. Three years for Kent, no jail time for Jo.
