I've got a Ford Festiva. No air or heat, not even a radio. I'm riding on elevens. Cracked windshield, horrible paint job. Top that.

older mercedes
I had a decade old merc once; 1968 300SEL.
Warning! I hope you have lots of extra money for repairs. At that age you could well pay the purchase price in repairs every year or two.
(I also don't recall a 350 in those years ?? )

Infiniti 1999 I30t
This one has been perfect for two years now (knock on wood). It's a fancified Nissan maxima of course. Buying it used meant not paying much premium of the fancification.

'91 Toyota Camry with no reverse and no driver's side inside door handle, and an '04 Chevy pickup. 206,000 and 84,000 miles, respectively. But both paid off next week sometime....

Re: older mercedes
Yeah, 350 came much later. I had a 190SL, wanted a real 300SL, had a 220S and a host of other cars. The 300 was replaced by the 230 when they changed bodystyles along about 63 or so.
BUT
repairs on a 23 year old Merc can easily equal the cost of a new car, and they are not all that pleasant to drive anyway.

1966 Volkswagen Beetle
...was my first car, and I got my license in 1975. About 3 years later, just before I got a new car, the Beetle was kept running with a rubber band on the carburetor. In that condition, me and 3 of my friends used it to travel to New Orleans for a Stones concert. On the way back, the fanbelt broke and I had one of the most ingenious ideas I've ever had. One of the passengers was a girl, and I had her remove her pantyhose. I cut off one leg and tied it round the flywheel and alternator. It worked, and got us as far as McComb where we stopped and got a proper fanbelt.

My first car...
...was a 1961 Ford Thunderbird with bucket seats, power windows and a 390 cubic inch engine with four-barrel carb that got 9 miles to the gallon. Gas was 24.9 cents/gallon in 1969 - milk was 99 cents/gallon.
My current car is a 1997 BMW 528i with 168,000 miles. Bought it new, should be ready for another one in 5 to 10 years. You get a free loaner during repairs if you bought it new from the dealer, it's never broken down and left me stranded, it's been a great deal.

My first car was a 1950 Chevy, six cylinder coupe. Shift linkage was a little worn. Every once in awhile they would pop out of the socket and you would have to stop, pop the hood and reassemble the linkage.

How can you park and leave places without reverse?
Must take skill.

Must be nice.
I bought my first car myself.
It was a bright red 1990 Isuzu pick up truck. Bare bones. It had rear anti-locks and a radio.
I drove that car until it died, nearly 200,000 miles and 10 years, on it's original clutch, which I'm pretty proud of since I taught myself to drive a manual on it.

Being in a small town helps a very great deal.
My first car, in about 1966, was a 1958 Mercury that came to me with fender skirts, four outside rear-view mirrors, and three swept-back antennas. $200 for that baby, too. It used a quart of oil and a quart of ATF every week, no matter how much I drove it.

1973 VW transporter/camper/riviera.. called 'Poppy' my pride and joy.
I also own a 1986 Honda Shadow VT1100 called Spot.
naming my vehicles is a bad habit I picked up from an ex girlfriend.
