Some may have noticed in the banner that we seem to have over 700 visitors right now. Checking into this reveals we're getting banged on by hundreds of servers from Verisign. Anyone have a guess why? Do they operate a search engine?

Here is their home page:
About VeriSign
The home page states they process 'as many as 18 billion Internet interactions and support over 100 million phone calls'.
But according to this sight[IP] from the Oklahoman re Verisign It is hijacking user who were trying top visit a site that does not exist.
quote:
>Users end up at VeriSign's SiteFinder when they try to visit a nonexistent
Web site. It offers users a search engine and suggestions as to where they
may want to go.
So what's the problem? Plenty, say VeriSign detractors. Its site is
intrusive and hijacks unsuspecting users, who before the SiteFinder was
implemented would have received an error message advising them that the
site for which they were searching did not exist.

Look to this day, For yesterday is already a dream. And tomorrow only a vision. But today We lived, makes every Yesterday a dream of Happiness and every tomorrow A vision of hope. Look well there to This day.

Anyone have a guess why?
I have no idea. What pages are they looking at, and does that give a hint?
Do they operate a search engine?
Did they attempt to read "robots.txt"?

Just say no to McCain 2008; he abandoned principle when he caved on habeus corpus

They have a webcrawler but it usually looks at robots.txt. I checked a couple sites and do not see Verisign.
