Evangelicals should get rid of their verbal tic of placing 'just' before every first-person verb: 'We just wanna praise God,' 'We just wanna share the good news', etc. It doesn't sound self-effacing. It sounds like a symptom.
I've just never noticed anything like that before. Is this just a TBN thing? Just what exactly are you talking about?
Hate to break it you NJ but that's like a Catholic saying "pope? what's a pope?"

Dr. Strangelove is easily one of the best movies of all time.
About pacing, most movies prior to about 1985 have significantly slower pacing than today's films. But check out Kubrick's 1957 film, The Killing, which definitely has modern pacing, way ahead of it's time. It also heavily influenced Reservoir Dogs. Paths of Glory is another film that flies by. 2001 and Barry Lyndon have slow pacing but that is a very deliberate choice by Kubrick.

The most controversial opinion I have is that I believe that a genuine believer in Christ, can't be a criminal/evil-doer. Specifically, evil Godless heartless actions against others...For I believe it is a truism, that if a supposed believer in Christ and his peaceable teachings, went and done something anti-Christ, then he couldn't believe in Christ, otherwise he wouldn't do these things, because he would fear Christ, and the consequences.
I fail to see how a thug could be embracing peaceful teachings and love for others, while being criminal. That's a clear contradiction.
I also believe that everyone agrees with this deep down, even atheists who have ardently argued against me in the past over this issue. Because it's so self-evident. Also, I believe false claims of the NTSF are aimed at me, because of my belief. Here's my implication, in it's form;
Believers in Christ cannot be thugs/criminals/evil-doers etc.
If you're a criminal then you don't believe in Christ.
This claim in itself says nothing about atheists. It just shows the truism that a person who truly fears Christ cannot do evil. An obvious example is a thug. If you went up to a thug at night and told him about Jesus, he'd laugh at you. Does anyone actually believe a thug could be a believer? Ofcourse nobody does.
Also, I find the argument that all the prisoners are believers, most amusing, and an insult to my intelligence.

Re: Close but not There
Akira Kurosawa is the best director who ever lived.
Kubrick is second.
The only film of Kurosawa's I have seen is Tora, Tora, Tora.
Great film.

I really find Kubrick's movies stupefying, and not in a good way. He's got an eye for visual spectacle, but most everybody does, and Kubrick just doesn't understand pacing, in my opinion. (Or else he's deliberate about trying to put the audience to sleep.)
That's interesting. To each their own.
Some of my favorite aspects of a Kubrick film include the long holds in extremely tense moments, followed by a spine-tingling sound, such as a strike against a gong, I think it is: (The Shining had a number of those moments.)

Agreed. Peter Sellers was unbelievable. A gifted and incredibly flexible performance.
I like this shot below of Kubrick on the set.

First, dentistry was painless
then bicycles were chainless
and carriages were horseless
and many laws, enforceless.
Next, cookery was fireless
telegraphy was wireless
cigars were nicotineless,
and coffee was caffeineless
Soon oranges were seedless
the putting green, weedless
the college boy, joyless
the proper diet, fatless.
New roads are dustless
The latest minds are restless
our tennis courts, sodless
Our new religion, Godless.

Great film.
Kurosawa was fired from Tora, Tora, Tora early on for going overbudget and acting like a primadonna, so his contribution was minimal. See the new movie thread Message 1 for more details on Kurosawa.

While I mostly agree with your assesment of Kubrick (I failed to stay wake for all three of my attempts to watch 2001: A Space Oddesey), did you like The shining? I thought that was fucking incredible.

(3) I think certain ethnic groups are underrepresented. When was the last time you saw a hollywood made movie where the asian hero of the story got the girl? A friend of mine pointed this out to me while I was in college. Since then, I started paying attention and found that he's completely correct.

Here's goes
I don't think that Bob Dylan is all that.
And, The Doors suck.
I think that smoking should be banned in public places, including outdoors.
More than 50% of young American men would violently rape a woman if they could be assured of getting away with it.

Not really.
You can get life in prison without parole for posession of drugs but the average sentence for rape is 10 years and most get paroled at 5.
