Anyone else here love soccer?

Don't you all just love the sport? I could watch it all day long no matter what countries or clubs are playing against each other ( of course I prefer watching good clubs and countries playing ). Most of my friends are soccer fanatics too. It's just so kewl If you don't love it, why?And... What is the general opinion about soccer in the states? Is it considered a "girls' sport" like I many times keep hearing? Is it given value like football or ice hockey?

Its boring. Lots of passing. not a lot of shooting, low scores and whimpy, whiny players. Its ghey. yup I'd give it value close to hockey, but I think hockey sucks too . I'm a footbal fan, neither soccer nor hockey come close to the value of fotball, IM(NS)HO.

But it's maybe the most skilled teambased game there is. In ice hockey people break the rules all the time and go unpunished most of the time. In soccer if you act like a jerk it's red card and you're out. That's one of the main reasons I love it.Yes, there's a lot of passing but there are also so many sick moves in every game and unexpected stuff happening like someone scoring a free kick, and that's what keeps the game interesting.
Also, it's such a teambased game, but an inspiration even from a single player can turn the game a different way. That's what I find intriguing.What do you mean there's little shooting? Compared to for example your favorite game football (which btw is a very misleading name) how is there little shooting? In soccer they use every good opportunity to shoot.I find it very boring to watch games where there are so many "scores" that you get tired of them, like basketball.Also, how is football not boring? The game breaks up every 5 seconds. I don't get how anyone can enjoy that.

The sick moves look like flamboyantly dancing around the ball. I don't find watching it entertaining. It could be.Football is more complicated and in-debth than soccer. Or if the opposing player convinces the ref you were acting like a jerk Hmmm, I like basketball. It just looks like most of the game is non-shooting strategy to get the ball in a position to have a good opportunity to shoot. I'd prefer accuracy by volume as opposed to waiting for the perfect opportunity. Of course, that'd probably take alot of the skill out of it

I LOVE soccer. I have three teenage boys who play, too.I hardly ever watch it, because I don't have a TV. I do make sure we find a way to tape World Cup games, at least some, and I have a couple videos I bought that we watch occasionally. Mostly, though, we love playing.I live in a village--about 250 people on 100 acres of land in West TN--with about 100 kids in it. That means on weekends I get to get out there with the teenagers, and a couple other adults, and mix it up for two plus hours. Total blast, and since I play halfback mostly and I'm 45, it's just a given that I'll be limping around the office on Monday, groaning whenever I sit down or stand up.

I actually enjoy foosball(table soccer), the rollover shot, the European pin shots, the angle pin shots, passing from the 5 man and the slap shots like in the video from the 3 man.The video to the foosball player is like golfers like Tiger Woods tapping the golf ball behind their back and then hitting hitting it 150 yards. Table soccer (foosball) the ultimate shot is perhaps the drop shot from the goalie over the rods to score. Don't watch the sport, as I find sport watching boring. But I do like to play it above all other sports! Best yet, I'm better at it than other sports Anyone who hates soccer can come kiss my ass!

Thats always been my take on American Football.A line of fat blokes in camp outfits and one or two runners who do all the catching.Stop, start, stop, start, start, stop, start, start, stop, start, start, stop, start, etc.And they can have a breather for more pies at the drop of a hat.

I have been a supporter of Falkirk since I was seven.I used to go to nearly all the games, but now I just go to all the home games and only a few away.We were promoted to the premier league last year, we finished 10th of 12, so we stayed up and are looking to consolidate our position this year.We look fairly safe, and have had not too bad a season so far. We put Celtic out the League Cup and are now in the semi final of that, and we defeated Rangers in the league, so we have been progressing.Brian.

Interesting take, Larni, but I must emphatically disagree. I love soccer, as the topic asks, but seeing this post I felt compelled to respond.Football, especially O and D linemen, although rather large and formidable looking, are asked to do so much more than any other players on the field. They, the D-line, are required on each and every down to either out-manuever, out-hustle, or simply overpower the lineman in front of them on each and every play.The O-line is required to stop some of the most fast and powerful people in the nation, on each and every down.The stop, start, stop, start, aspect of the game gives those fans more knowledgable of the game to shoot the shit with one another over the previous play, and/or to tend to their brew. Lastly, those teams that rely on "one or two runners who do all the catching" are usually not quality teams. The great thing about football is the players must fill their specific niche to the best of their ability. It's a mass of individual organisms that strive to act as one. The teams that generally get the most out of their players at each position and play, act, respond, move as one unit under the guidance of an intelligent, cunning, and sometimes whimsical coaching staff are those that reach the superbowl.Some teams have great individual players, brimming over with talent and finesse, strength, etc. but it's those teams that play as one unit, force, that generally succeed.Sorry for the tirade, but it's been a while since I posted anything. I just can't see how this is so. In soccer you have to be alert at all times, a full 90 minutes and if you make a mistake it just might cost the game. When in football the time you must be fully concentrated are just a few seconds and then it's a break. So the time you have to think about strategies and ways of fooling the opposition is a much larger time at soccer 'cause you're playing all the time and have to many times make quick responses to situations.If you mean it's more complicated in a way like chess, then I still have to disagree. Soccer and football have different tactics (of course) but for both they're still just as important for winning the game.Just as a side note I say soccer is a much more teambased game than football.edit: Oh yeah, I hope Finland makes it to the next european cup.
