Re: jar
TTBOMK it is original. By that I simply mean I did not pick it up from some other source that I know of, not that some other individual did not also notice it. As Clark said, it is not profound in anyway so I would expect many folk to have seen it long before me. In fact I would say that it is so obvious that if others have not commented on that relationship it is just because they believe everyone is aware of it already.

Moose,
Thanks mate, but we both know it's not a POTM. I'll have to return the gong when I receive it. Glad you enjoyed, though.

I just want Percy and Randman to know that I have just read the thread and appreciated the debate, exemplary of good debate conduct and input. Imo, you both did well in presenting your arguments in a lively and congenial manner. It was both interesting and (abe: informative).

Percy documents Michael Behe, evolutionist
Author: Percy
Forum: Intelligent Design
Topic: INTELLIGENT DESIGN: An Engineer’s Approach
Message: 263
Behe writes:
In a recent paper (Hall 1999) Professor Hall pointed out that both the lac and ebg B-galactosidase enzymes are part of a family of highly-conserved B-galactosidases, identical at 13 of 15 active site amino acid residues, which apparently diverged by gene duplication more than two billion years ago.
It's the last portion that's significant: "...apparently diverged by gene duplication more than two billion years ago."
Many creationists and IDists don't realize that Behe fully accepts descent with modification and natural selection. He fully accepts common descent of all life today from one or a few organisms a few billion years ago. He fully accepts the geologic column, the 4.56 billion year age of the earth, and the 13.7 billion year old universe. Where he differs with other biologists is in his belief that certain microbiological structures are irreducibly complex and could only have come about by purposeful design and not by the process of evolution that he otherwise accepts for all else in life.
In other words, and just to be absolutely clear, Behe accepts that the process of evolution produced most of what we see in life on earth today. It's just that he also believes some aspects of that life could only have been designed.

December's Winners
The most nominated authors for the month of December, 2006, is a tie between Jar and Percy, each with three nominations a piece.
The prize awarded to you? A firm handshake
Congratulations!
I'm hoping this will prompt more people to vote on excellent posts for new members to model after. I realize I have not participated on POTM's until now. I'm making up for lost time.

Re: December's Winners
Although the personnel might have changed the results are rather indicative. A variety of posters got an initial PotM nominaton on the basis of a post arguing "against" the positon of these people below. The most "PotM'd against" person was Faith at 15, me next...etc
Faith 15*
Iano 10*
Randman 9*
Buzsaw 5*
Jar 4
Riverrat 3*
Jaywill 2*
Nwr 2
Phat 2
Golfer 2
Percy 2
The asterix denotes a person who holds a "faith alone" position. The number beside their name indicates the number of "first" nominations for posts arguing against their position. In fact, 45% of all* PotM's argued against these people (*seconds/thirds not counted - if counted then even more argued against "faith alone" by way of nominations).
This says nothing very much except that a single position dominated the position PotM writers happened to be arguing "against" - over all the other positions at EvC.
It is interesting to note that Randman is consigned to the Showhouse. Faith has been banned. I don't post because I would hold the same line Faith would. Thus, the "top three" of the above list have been, by way of force of one kind or another, removed from the scene that was then. Buzsaw, who posts very little on-thread, attracted an abnormally high amount of PotMs against, funnily enough. But it sounds like he had history here - so I could have been catching the tail-end of things.
Another bit of interesting data:
Total (1st) PotM nominations in 2005 = 215
Nominations for Faith Alone adherents = 7.2
For 7.2 read 7. Despite the PotM's "against" faith alone positions representing 45% of all initial nominations, nominations "for" faith alone positions only counted for 7 out of 215...less than 4%. "Brilliant argument vs.imbecilic argument" (to paraphrase) was a common (anti-Faith Alone position) explanation for the wild discrepency
Read it as you will NJ. The figures seem to indicate a "massive force" against a position you seem to hold yourself. By all means argue the toss. But when it comes to "building up" an institution like PotM it is worth threading carefully. Partisan and anti-Christian it has proven to be. Handing out "prizes" as you do is only playing into hands. Its an arrogance as it is. Stay well clear and give it no truck is my advice.

Re: December's Winners
Stay well clear and give it no truck is my advice.
it seems to me that if you don't post, and you encourage others of your position not to post, and you do not nominate posts you feel to be exceptional, than you are partly to blame for the lack of creationist potm nominations.
Phat 2 ... The asterix denotes a person who holds a "faith alone" position.
i've spoken to phat at great length, on many occasions in the chat. i find it highly ironic and depressing that he is excluded from the fundamentalist ranks. god forbid a person be reasonable? does one have to be a fanatic? but i can attest for phat's position, and it is every bit as much "faith alone" as faith's, or buzsaw's, or yours.
phat makes a lot of good points, and i respect him very highly. he is in every way the exception to our famously poor showing of creationists and fundamentalists here. he is intelligent, and well spoken, god-loving and god-fearing, and a caring and compassionate person. you only do your camp injury by excluding him.
your line in the sand has nothing to do with spiritual beliefs or religious position.

OK, things are really getting away from things POTM
The discussion had been, more or less, a POTM topic post-mortem. I figured that was OK. Now things are straying even further.
Going to close this one down. Will probably reopen tommorrow, in case there are any late discoveries of December POTM's.
