Hello all,
I will be posting a few scanned pages of The Summa Theologica including: a synopsis of what he means, and I will also be outlying the discussion points related to the lengthy excerpt. This should provide for some good discussion.
These will be done at bi-weekly intervals, or whenever I see fit.
= New ones will be added as we begin to rehash on the current reading.
The first excerpt I will post today, tomorrow or the next day. It is a three page excerpt from his excellently crafted objections and rebuttals: a piece dealing with interpretations of scripture, more specifically, literal interpretation of scripture. He offered a new perspective on literal interpretation of scripture unseen here after he or when he addressed the objection to metaphor in scripture.
Reading Aquinas proved difficult for me at first, but after reading and rereading, I am beginning to agree with him at every point. I am beginning to recognize his genius.
This thread should liven the spirits of many here with a little work.
Well, check often for the first excerpt.

Summa come loudly
ey CSP! I scanned this Wiki article on the Summa, and now see the basic points that Aquinas made---although I did not read it thoroughly.
Do you think that it may be easier to provide links to the sources which you get the pages, since I assume that this thing will be quite long.
In essence, what intellectual and theological truths did you get from the Summa Theologica that resonated with your soul and spirit and which inspired you to write this post?

Just provide links -mess
Posting readable scans of pages in a thread is bad form particularly of something like the works of Tommy that are readily available.
Save yourself the effort.

Re: Summa come loudly
I'm not necessarilly inspired by his words. The first 3 page excerpt I will post from one of the online sources is actually really pertinent to EvC and I think it could develop nicely into a great thread.

Dear all,
unfortunately I have exhausted my mind on trivial things today.
I will not be able to muster a great post tonight unless during my reading tonight I become fervently impassioned, but if this happens it will be at 1 or 2 am.
I apologize for this let-down. I understand many were anxiously awaiting my post. Seriously, sorry. I should have it up sometime tomorrow

I understand many were anxiously awaiting my post.
Well, I am absolutely gutted, I stayed up all night to try and be the first to read this life changing post.
I am sure I heard the whole world sigh in disappointment.
Brian.

Now we may NEVER know the truth.
I had been waiting the return of the Enlightened One, but now it appears that we shall forever remain in ignorance.
Return. Success.
Going out and coming in without error.
Friends come without blame.
To and fro goes the way.
On the seventh day comes return.
It furthers one to have somewhere to go.
Inner Truth. Pigs and fishes.
Good fortune.
It furthers one to cross the great water.
Perseverance furthers.

I remember that moment--the discovery that someone really has figured it all out.
The quest is over. The rest of one's existence may be lived in the warm glow of safe, certain answers.
Glorious.
Then the professor assigns the second philosophy book...
