The administration of has bent over backwards, to let you express your views. This included the "Let Salty be Salty".
This is ending. Please see and follow the guidelines at
http:///WebPages/ForumRules.html
Also, please note the discussion leading up to, and including the message at http://EvC Forum: Change in Moderation? -->EvC Forum: Change in Moderation?
My personal variation on the rules:
1) Try to stay in the vacinity of the topic.
2) Bring something of substance into your messages (not just links/citations to papers elsewhere).
3) Be nice to others.
If these guidelines won't work for you, please just go away.
Or, if you refuse to mend your ways, a suspension of posting priviledges will be following.
This message is your warning.

Hi Adminnemooseus,
I'll let you take the lead on this one. Please feel free to take whatever actions you may deem appropriate if such should become necessary in your judgment.

Bump
I am certainly open to member opinion on the great Salty situation. I don't have any special talent in determining if and when Salty has crossed the line into unacceptable behavior.

Re: Bump
I certainly don't want to argue for giving salty special treatment or pampering. However it is obvious that he wishes to feed his martyr complex by being suspended or banned for by his "persecutors". I suggest that the most telling strategy would be to ignore his ad hominems and asides and repeatedly ask for evidence to support his assertions, or repeatedly refer him to contradicory evidence which he has failed to address. The lack of substance for his position should become obvious to interested readers and it may even penetrate to salty's cognitive regions.

Re: Bump
The strategy you describe was the one we were following, but other members are now complaining about the double standard, since we're still enforcing the guidelines for other members. For instance, Mammuthus recently decided to go inactive when he received a 1-day suspension because of what he felt was inconsistent moderating, and SLPx followed shortly thereafter.
I believe moderating is as much art as science, but as time goes by and moderating remains a significant issue I'm becoming more and more convinced that participation here should be contingent upon demonstration of some minimum level of competence for both discussion and logical thinking.

OK. I agree in principle, but can you think of a mechanism by which you can actually determine competence and skill with logic?

Re: Bump
How about giving everyone the analytical portion of the GRE's
Sorry, just kidding. I really do not think that there is a good answer to this question so I thought that I would try to lighten the mood a little. I am trying to think of a helpful suggestion w.r.t. the Mods allowing people a free flow of ideas and statements without the possible resulting chaos and loss of focus but have not thought of one yet. If I do I will certianly post it to the Mods as I would rather keep as many different posters here for discussion as possible. Even Salty, who has discussed almost nothing to date.

LOL... I was thinking along the lines of those online IQ tests. Maybe build a quiz right into the registration sequence...

Salty suspension
Per the message at http://EvC Forum: Dr Page's best example of common descent explained from the GUToB. -->EvC Forum: Dr Page's best example of common descent explained from the GUToB., Salty is under a 24 hour suspension of posting privledges, and SLPx is warned.

Re: Salty suspension
I agree, Adminmoose, equating anyone to Safarti is reprehensible.

Re: Salty suspension
Been away from my computer, so the 24 hours stretched a bit long.
Anyhow, Salty's posting privledges have now been restored.

Re: Salty suspension
Moose, if you or any of the other Admin's have posting priveleges at Terry Trainor's site, could someone please inform salty that there is now a thread in the Free for All where he may feel free to debate his hypothesis. I started it to 1) give him an opportunity to continue 2) and keep it unmoderated as his threads kept going off topic and ending up closed 3) not give him the satisfaction of claiming he and his ideas were surpressed here.
Cheers,
M

Sheesh - Salty's here, and you seem to want to get rid of him. Salty's not here, and you want me to get him back.
I'm not going to try to get Salty back. Salty is unlikely to say anything you haven't already heard. As I see it, all that is likely, is a renewal of flames.
