Sorry, Nye.
I should've been able to tell by the picture! An interesting thing that both Evolution/Creation debate sites and chess sites have in common is that around 80 to 90% of the participants are male. Why that is would make a very interesting topic on this site.

Are we all still playing? My game is still going on, but the interest among every one else seems to have fizzled out. Heck, people seemed more excited before the tourney began than they do now that it has begun.

It's because we're all in the thick of battle!
I must admit though, I find it hard to concentrate on my moves. I've made most of my moves in under 1 minute, which is really bad form. The next game that I start, I'm going to try think about each move more.

I'm playing my first round game with Nye, and three practice games with other EvC tournament players. It's just that the games take a long time, nemesis, so there's nothing really to report 'til they're finished (I think one is - see further up thread).

I'm going to try think about each move more. The problem for me is each move takes so long, by the time it's my turn again I've forgotten what I was planning on doing. Just a few moves ago I was sitting there thinking, "Now why did he do that?" It took me about five minutes to remember that previously my knight was there and he had decided to sacrifice his bishop to take it.

Best way to refresh your memory is to wind the board back a few moves.

Ah, yes. I just discovered the 'Analyze the Board' feature. Very helpful.

There's a link so you can leave yourself notes. For example, when I moved my rook over to pin your bishop, I left myself a note about my other rook that said "Don't let the B take the R on d1. Either keep the bishop pinned or free the rook to move."
That helps. Since I generally check on the games here and there as I'm working, I'm thinking about getting back to work, so I've been only taking 30 sec's or a minute in between tasks at work. That's probably not a good idea in a tournament when you actually have 3 days to think.

And our game is finished now, too.

Y'all have the happening game. No direct comments on the game, of course, other than great to watch.

That's probably not a good idea in a tournament when you actually have 3 days to think. That's also a problem I have: I tend to respond within a few minutes of it being my move, rather than deliberating longer. It's hard to break the habitual urgency of time learned in clock play. Heh, thanks for the compliment, Phat.
But eratic just finished giving me a sharp, methodical lesson in the consequences of too-casual play. I'm not saying he thought long (who knows?), and I thought briefly, but I'd definitely have done well to think longer.
