Re: darn this is fun!
Oh.. this is exciting, I'm in the next round. So what happens next... will the winner of Jon/Kuresu challenge me? I'd better check out the opposition...
Obviously, there are people raring to go, and as a player in one of the remaining games, I feel we're holding things up.
Nye's only moving about once every 24 hours on average, which is fine, but at that rate, if the game turns out to be a 40+ move one, you're all going to have to wait another 20 days.
I looked into the other unfinished game, and that looks just about finished, so I was wondering if you all wanted to go ahead without us, excepting, obviously, whoever it is who's due to play the winner of our game.
I've never played in a chess tournament before, so I'm not really sure what we're doing. Is it a straight knock-out tournament. Or does everyone end up playing everyone else. Seems a bit harsh on the first six losers if they're straight out for just dropping one game.
(No self-interest there, I'm winning at the moment!).

Tourney info
Winners proceed to your next match. sorry that jon likes to move once every other to 3 days.
As to the losers . . .hope is not lost. The Tourney is double elimination. someone just needs to figure out the tree. and as I did not ask to be put in the chess council, i'll leave it to the person who put me in--jon.
note: this is not me returning. this is me doing a sporadic post because certain people in the chess council aren't doing their jobs.

Re: Tourney info
I've done numerous tourneys, Kuresu, chess, softball, soccer, and tabletop sports games. I can table up your double elimination tourney and email it to you if you want.

blitz chess
I was just playing blitz chess on gameknot, and I just got my ass handed to me 4 times.
Seems like your playing a computer, because there is no wait, but I could be wrong.
I hate time limits.

Re: blitz chess
You should try chessanytime.com. There are a lot of good players on there. It's a real-time java applet, and moves can take as little as a second to pass, so you gotta think quick .

Re: blitz chess
Blitz chess is a java applet too, and you have 10 minutes to complete the game, per player.
I feel redeemed though, I won at least 4 out of 10 games.
And it's not a computer, it's real players.
Am I supposed to challenge truthlover?

Why me? As I said above, I've never played in a chess tournament, and I've no idea what we're doing! Plus I'm still playing the first round.
Maybe Jon's confusing me with Truthlover, who volunteered to organize something a few posts above. If he'd like to do that, I, for one, would be happy to go along with any arrangements he sees fit to make, and would thank him for his efforts!
Everyone agreed?
P.S. Nye, if you're around, it says 16 hrs left on the clock, and on Gamenot's system, there's no way I can revive the game if you time out.

sorry, I was the one who confused bluegenes and truthlover.
to bluegenes:
nyeusigrube is having severe computer problems, and will for about a week. so she'll be losing the game. the solution? gk records the moves made, so you to can play again once her computer is running, and you two can make the same moves to get back to the current point.

That's fine, and understandable! If you're in touch somehow, if her Email's working, could you ask her to challenge me when the problem's are solved? (if the first game has timed out). I'm in no hurry, but the reason I posted at the top of this page, about other people moving on, is that a couple of people had said they were enjoying the tournament, and were clearly raring to go. It's an inevitable problem that some of the games will take much longer than others, and give Nye my sympathy!

Re: Two more games to go til the quarter finals...
Well, here's the way I show it working. I hope I can draw this on here. I've got both the EVC name and the Gameknot name unless they're the same:
Winner's bracket, 2nd round (white should issue challenge):
quote:
Tusko (white)
Winner of Jon vs. kuresu (black)
Zawinul/zawievc (white)
anglagard (black)
riVeRrat/antslake (white)
truthlover/shammahbn (black)
Winner of nyeuisgrube vs. bluegenes/eratic (bye)
Loser's bracket, round 2:
quote:
Loser of Jon vs. Kuresu (white)
Phat/phatevc (black)
Omnivorous (white)
Catholic Scientist/catsci (black)
Nemesis Juggernaut/hyroglyphx (white)
tudwell (black)
Loser of nyeuisgrube vs. bluegenes/eratic (bye)
I'll show the format for the whole tourney on the next post. There's no room when I write out the names.
Edited by truthlover, : make more readable

Tourney format
Here's the format. I'm using A through N instead of names for the 1st round, then Game #'s for later rounds. W7, for example, means "The winner of game 7." Who gets white and who gets black can't be determined until the beginning of each round, when we see which players advance and how often they've had white or black.
Round 1
*******
1. A vs. B
2. C vs. D
3. E vs. F
4. G vs. H
5. I vs. J
6. K vs. L
7. M vs. N
Round 2
*******
Winner's Bracket:
8. W1 vs. W2
9. W3 vs. W4
10. W5 vs. W6
11. W7 (bye)
Loser's Bracket:
12. L1 vs. L2
13. L3 vs. L4
14. L5 vs. L6
15. L7 (bye)
Round 3
*******
Winner's Bracket:
16. W8 vs. W9
17. W10 vs. W11
Loser's Bracket:
18. W12 (bye)
19. W13 vs. L10
20. W14 vs. L9
21. W15 vs. L8
Round 4
*******
Winner's Bracket (Semifinals):
22. W16 vs. W17
Loser's Bracket:
23. W18 vs. W19
24. W20 vs. L12
25. W21 vs. L17
Round 5
*******
Winner's bracket:
W22 (bye, awaits winner of loser's bracket)
Loser's Bracket:
26. W23 vs. L22
27. W24 vs. W25
Round 6
*******
Winner's bracket:
W22 (bye, awaits winner of loser's bracket)
Loser's Bracket:
28. W26 vs. W27
Round 7 (Final)
***************
W22 vs. W28 (W28 must beat W22 twice to win tournament)

Bluegenes, that format allowes you and nye a bye for the 2nd round, win or lose, so that will take care of any delay there. If that format's okay (it's pretty standard), then you can go ahead and challenge your 2nd round player.
