Oh, no, you have got to be KIDDING me! I've eaten there a lot, since my husband and I lived in Friendship on Graham Street. Love the baked ziti and the potato balls!
I recommend the shrimp alfredo, but its all (pretty) good. My good friend lives on Graham street right now, btw.

Lemme guess you sold it to the family that owns Dell's down the street, didn't you?
Yes, sigh. CURSE THE M******!

My mother lived above the Pleasure Bar over 40 years ago when she was a student at West Penn nursing school! She tells stories of the owner picking her up and sitting her on the counter (she was tiny then as now, under 100 pounds).
I am willing to be that that was your grandfather!
It would seem so. If he wore a fedora and looked like a gentle mobster, then its definately him. He was also her landlord, I believe, since he owned the entire building.

Yes, and very surreal the more that I think about it.
Nator, thanks for sharing your mom's memory. Out of all my grandparents I probably regret not having more time to spend with him, so any story about the kind of man he was is nice to know.
And thinking more about it, his death from bone cancer when I was 10 got me thinking about the "problem of suffering or evil" and started my way towards atheism, then towards science books, then internet forums, and presently at EvC. Strange connections...

Nothing as interesting as the Justin/nator saga. What a great story.
I flew for a living. About 7 years in the Canadian military and then over 31 years with Air Canada. I had to retire at age 60 just over 3years. My last aircraft was an A340 and my last flight was Hong Kong/Vancouver.
As a result at the age a lot of you were learning really interesting stuff in university I was trying to acquire skills in aviation. I'm trying to make up for it now, to whatever degree I can, but as you'll notice by my posts it's slow going.
Now my job is leading sing songs by playing music from the first part of the last century to groups of unsuspecting seniors. I do that as well as being a warden in our church. (Anglican) I try to keep time aside for reading, (science and theology), but I don't get as much time for that as I'd like. (Some days, like the last couple, I spend too much time posting on EvC which cuts further into my reading time.) Actually the main reason that I spend time here is that there is so much accumulated knowledge, and as a result I spend a lot more time here reading than I do posting. Thanks to all who share their insights and wisdom.

Everybody is entitled to my opinion.

it was my childhood dream to be a pilot, alas finance and asthma determined otherwise.
So instead I studied Aeronautical engineering and aerospace design, I worked on A320, A380 and now 787 projects.
I still love the Airbus Aircraft the best though.

It was my childhood dream as well. I was extremely fortunate. I always seemed to be in the right place at the right time which was none of my doing. Mind you, being born in 1943 and ahead of the baby boomers was an advantage although my dad died in service, (an RCAF Navigator) in 1944. I always been blessed with good health and so I had no problems that way.
I flew and instructed on the A320 and love Airbus technology. I saw a video presentation of the cockpit of the 787 the other day and seeing as how my airline is getting them I found it really disappointing that I had to retire without getting a chance to fly it.
My favourite airplanes though were the C130 and the DC9.

Could never do that:
I'm really bad with heights and a childhood fear of the Big Bad Wolf coming down the pig's chimney makes me shudder when I think of chimnies.

First, that story is awesome. It's great to watch people discover they share memories, looking at each other and saying, "No! No way!" and getting all excited.
You know what they say: no matter where you go, even in the far reaches of cyberspace, Pittsburghers will find each other.
I've only been to Pittsburgh once and never lived in that part of the country, so I've never heard that. While there's no reason to care whether I've ever heard that, I did want to tell you the one thing I did hear about a guy from Pittsburgh.
The way I heard it, the guy was in hell whistling, singing, and having a good time while be broke up rocks in the flames. When the devil heard about it, he asked the demons in charge in that area what was going on. They had no idea, so the devil asked the guy himself.
"Well," The Pittsburghian replied, "This is great. It reminds me of the ol' days working in the steel mills."
So the devil ordered up massive amounts of rain, stopped the flames, and had the Pittsburghian pushing a wheelbarrow through knee deep mud. The whistling and singing just got louder.
The devil came back. "Why in this place are you so happy?" he asked.
The Pittsburghian replied, "Are you kidding? This is great! Just like spring back in Pittsburgh, working in the yard, everything soaked to the bone. I love it!"
The devil walked away irritated, and he told his demons to completely freeze that area out. Solid ice, below freezing temperatures. He wanted the guy suffering.
When he came back, however, the Pittsburghian was no longer singing and whistling, but whooping, hollering, and jumping up and down.
The devil lost it. "WHAT IS IT NOW?! WHY ARE YOU SO HAPPY!"
"Are you kidding?" the guy replied. "Hell froze over! The Steelers must have won the super bowl!"
I'm not from Pittsburgh, and I can't remember why I heard that joke about it.

I run the library system for a junior college district (there goes my cover). I even have the title of 'Dean' but am probably the smallest potato college dean in the USA. At any rate it is nice to have such a highfalutin' title.
I once made the mistake of telling my wife that I was essentially a professional smartass.
I have degrees in Geological Engineering, Technical Communication, and, by accident + $20, Basic Science from New Mexico Tech. One of the main reasons I'm here is because I miss discussing the natural sciences as I used to do with the people at Tech.
Before libraryland and the MLS, I was a newspaper reporter and before that a soldier in 'military intelligence.'
Another reason I am here is I live 40 miles from where GW Bush grew up, so our tied for 2nd worst president in history (IMHO) is considered a local boy.
I believe most of the population here is YEC, so I tend to vehemently disagree with their ideas about science, politics, and religion.
EvC helps me keep my faith in humanity, and perhaps even keeps what little sanity I have left, considering the circumstances.

I own a plumbing heating and airconditioning business. Been doing it for 23 years. I regularly trouble shoot, and engineer systems for houses. Also work on Commercial refrigerators, and did computer room air conditioning for companies like MTV, HBO, Morgan Garaunty bank, and the Dow Jones.
I am also a master sheet metal layout mechanic. I can cover the average person in sheet metal if they want. I've done a gargoyle in copper on top of a west side Manhattan apartment building.
For hobbies, I have too many to list, including ameture radio, anything R/C, and playing piano for my church (Christian rock). I design, build and fly R/C planes. I fish, drag race, build my own boat and car motors, also ride motorcycles. Took a few flying lessons too
