Re: nye is back
Sorry kuresu - I must have moved the gameknot emails out of my inbox and completely forgot about our game! I was really enjoying that too. Best of luck in the rest of the tournament.

Re: finally
Sorry, Omni - I've been on the computer plenty over the last couple of days but I totally forgot about our game somehow. I'm starting to suspect that the first game flattered me somewhat! If you do fancy another, perhaps with a slightly longer time limit to reflect my atrocious memory for these kind of things, that'd be great.

Re: finally
Hi there - apologies, I've been out of town because my partner and her family having a traumatic time that came to a head yesterday. I went to offer a bit of support... but it was resolved in a really positive way (sorry if I'm talking in riddles!) and I'm back and happy today!
It strikes me as a bit strange that gameknot don't email you when you are challenged and instead you have to check their site... but other than that its one of the best internet play chess sites that I've seen.
Let the games commence!
ABE:
I tried to offer you a game in return but it wont let me start a game.. I'm sure it did before. grrr... challenge me again and I'll be there! You may have to send me a reminder through evc though, because gameknot aren't letting me know when I've been challenged
Edited by Tusko, : some exciting extra information.

Re: finally
I just checked and thats ticked in my profile. I think I've figured it out - for some reason I have become a "rule violator" and I think since that time they haven't been sending me any emails. I can't start games any more either. Quite what I did wrong I don't know, but it means I'm going to have to pay to be reinstated.
Pain in the arse!
Cheers anyway. ~I think I'll still be able to play if other people challenge me though, so anyone feel free.

Re: finally
I think you are right. The frustrating thing is that it won't let me start my own games - I'm going to have to be challenged by other people. Please - feel free if you want a game of chess against someone mediocre! I flourish best under less stringent time limits - say a week?
The frustrating thing is, as far as I can see it, that the reason I timed out on those couple of games was because they stopped sending me emails to say that my opponents had moved... and not recieving emails seems to be a byproduct of losing priveliges (I wasn't notified that omni just challenged me for instance - I only found out when I went to check my page on your advice). So I'm not sure if the timing out in those games WAS the route cause, or if it was something earlier.
All very boring. I just wanted to get it off my heaving chest!

Re: Kuresu vs. Anglagard
Is that what it tells you? I'm only playing one game!
Ah well - I hope I can get back into gameknot's good books...
(Thanks for trying to challenge me by the way)

Admit defeat
Really sorry - I just remembered our game, who knows how long after it was timed out. I think that its going to be pointless me even trying to play games now they don't send me reminders when my opponent moves any more.
Its very frustrating, because I really like playing.
Sorry for wasting your time.

Re: Admit defeat
Hi bluegenes,
I hadn't thought of that actually, it was a good idea. However, I keep all my spam (gmail) and I just searched all my email and the last email i got was in the middle of the game with Kuresu that I forfeited because I forgot about it (I didn't get a reminder that he had moved). When I try to do anything, like start a new game (even now when I am playing no-one) I get this message:
RULES VIOLATION DETECTED:RULES VIOLATION DETECTED:
Please subscribe to a premium membership to continue enjoying chess on GameKnot.
You can refer to GameKnot's Rules and Policies for more information on what's unacceptable on this website.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1. What did I do wrong exactly?
Due to an ever increasing number of free accounts created on GameKnot each day, we are unable to review all of them manually. To ensure safe and enjoyable environment for everyone, GameKnot employs an automated system to screen all accounts for possible rule violations. Most common violations: creation of multiple accounts, rating manipulation, rude or insulting messages to other players, inappropriate language or image on the profile page, etc. For a detailed description of what is unacceptable on GameKnot please see our Rules and Policies.
2. If I subscribe to a premium membership, how do I know you are not just going to suspend it again without an explanation?
Even though the free accounts are screened automatically, we review each possible rule violation manually in case of premium subscribers. You will also receive a warning first in case of a single instance of a minor violation, if you are a premium subscriber.
3. So does this mean that paying you money makes it ok to break the rules?
No, you will still be required to follow our Terms of Use, which you agreed to when registering your account with us. Subscribing to a premium membership also ensures that all future incidents of possible rule violations are reviewed manually by our staff.
4. But I haven't done anything wrong, why do I still need to pay?
Paying for a premium membership is not a "rule violation fee" in any way -- you will receive the full benefits of a premium membership with all advanced features and the ability to play more games simultaneously, just like any other premium membership subscriber. What it also shows is that you are serious about playing chess and provides a guarantee that you will follow all the rules.
I'm sure this is connected with the fact that I don't get emails because I have the option to be emailed move notices "on". Totally stumped. I'm not sure how I violated their rules but I don't think its tied to my email address. It must have been something that I was doing that inadvertantly triggered them to almost completely shut down my account. I can still play, but only one game, and only if someone else challenges me. Anyway, it won't email me when the other person moves, so I basically can't play because I'm too absent-minded to check without reminders.
Having said all this though, I will try another email address just for the hell of it, if anyone wants to challenge me again, but I bet I'll forget to check, like I kept forgetting with Omni over our last few attempts to play games.
