That's crap.
I live on the border of Vermont. I can buy organic, BGH-free, unhomogonized milk from small family farms with healthy, unstressed cows.
It is incredibly delicious and perfectly good for you (as long as one isn't lactose intolerant, of course.)
There is also the lovely cheeses to be made from all sorts of milk.

If not, it's high time. You'll live longer, too
If I can't have meat, who would want to? It's just be prolonging the agony.
not making yourself subject to the diseases contained in animal flesh
You're much more likely to be exposed to coliform bacteria and food-borne illnesses from plants than from meats. USDA regulations and inspections keep meat products relatively safe, and you have to cook meat to eat it; but there's not really the same inspection and regulation proceedures for produce eaten raw (and probably fertilized with animal manure.)

Re: I wonder of Al is still eating his tenderloin
you should test my "emissions". i bet they're worse than cows. especially with what my body has decided to do with milk this year. (and only just this year, btw.) i know of plenty of people who've lived a hundred years eating LOADS of meat. every time i've gotten sick off food, it was from a plant.
why don't you do a little research on the subject in, i dunno, scientific journals instead of the peta website.

This is not just to you, but all who responded regarding animal consumption/animal emissions/global warming.

Mmmmm... I think you've got that the wrong way round. 16 years a veggie, and I still have trouble accepting tofu on my plate. It has to be done just right or it just tastes like rubber. But there's a restaurant here in seattle called 'the teapot' which does an all vegan menu full of soy beef/chicken and fish...
I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Forbidden!
That's quite a source you got there, DorfMan.
What tipped me off? Oh, I dunno: maybe it was the "who says you have to actually be a scientist" above the column; maybe it was the total lack of source references, maybe this quote:
Former veep Al Gore, however, has no plans to update his “doomsday clock”...or re-edit his nonsensical crapfest, An Inconvenient Truth. (The asshole critics that sucked the films cock do no plan on retracting their ridiculous reviews either.)
I assume you stand by your source, since you used it to level charges of hypocrisy, Veggie Boy
Would you care to substantiate the assertions made in that, uh, article? There are several humdingers, so I suggest you read it again carefully before you start looking for actual data source references.
Methane is a good green issue, however; we should be capturing it to generate energy.
Meanwhile, I made a deal with the other animals: I eat them while I can: when they can, they get to eat me.

No, it doesn't have anywhere near the kind of flavor rubber does.
The best chocolate mousse I ever had was one made with silken tofu-which is essentially flavorless, so it allowed the high-quality chocolate the chef used to really shine through.
But anyway, I LOVE chewy tofu.

Might be tasty, but I doubt very much that they taste anything like real chicken or real fish or real beef. Especially the beef.
I don't like the idea of food that's been forced to try to pretend to be something it isn't and cannot hope to be anything like. It's dishonest from a culinary perspective; if you want to eat vegetable protein, then eat it, but don't try to dress up tofu with stuffing and gravy and pretend that it is turkey. It isn't. It isn't even close.
If you gave up eating meat, then eating "pretend meat" is just a silly way to want things both ways.

Yeah, exactly. Not to mention - it takes some pretty hefty chemical engineering to get tofu to taste like meat. At that point you're well beyond bucolic scenes of coolie-hatted soy farmers preparing tofu with ancient Asian secrets, and more into "better living through chemistry" territory.
So as a salve for a conscience wrestling with the guilt of modern factory farming, it's disingenuous. Meat-flavored tofu isn't any less a product of the factory than "regular" meats, and probably a lot worse for the environment in terms of processing energy and chemical by-products than the organic, small-farm meats you referred to a few posts back.
Also - yes on the chewy tofu. I've never minded the taste, but its flimsy texture is something I find unappetizing. I have the same problem with eggs and jello.
Sorry, I guess food isn't on-topic. But I guess my vote for "left-wing hypocrites" would be those people who make vegetarianism a moral, holier-than-thou crusade.

I've also never been able to understand that. I find that hypocritical because it's like saying, "I don't want to kill that poor animal, but I sure love the way it taste." Though, I myself have never had "veggie meat," so I can't say how much like the real thing it tastes. (Anyone have a personal review?)
That analogy is referring to those who are vegetarian for moral reasons, but I'd imagine those who have that diet because they don't like meat wouldn't seek an imitation. (?)

Re: I wonder of Al is still eating his tenderloin
how exactly am i hypocritial for eating meat? hypocritical does not mean "bad," it means "contradictory n practice from speech." if i said "meat is bad" but ate it anyways, then i would be a hypocrite. what about me eating meat does this?

that's a good point, i entirely forgot. rural china has some of the worst air pollution problems in the world. they also have very little in the way of modern conveniences. now, rural china is a HUGE area, so i'm sure there are several little towns with t4 wifi just to prove me wrong. whatever. in a few areas, there have been programs to reduce both of these problems by building special pig farms. the pigs live on top of a grate and the gunk drops down and the methan is collected and is processed and utilized to power the farm and more. i'm sure there are still some nasty leftovers, but it's a decent process. actually, environmental concerns are a huge way the chinese are getting involved in their government and starting to build up a more "democratised" feeling of individual influence on the government.

i like the morningstar "chicken" nuggets. i'm sure they're worse than regular stuff, but i only use them as an excuse to eat ketchup anyways.

From your link
quote:
"It's obviously easier to build a green home from the get-go," she said. "When you purchase an older home, these retrofits take a lot longer."
The article forgot to address the point that not everyone has the money and time to "upgrade" their homes and things to be environmentally friendly.
