Nice job on the Hamlet. I've got to say, its one hell of an undertaking. Care to elaborate on the thinking behind it a little? (I particularly like Old Hamlet by the way - you don't see the application of golden age arcade game design values to Shakespeare productions nearly enough).
But I'm not really writing this because I'm interested in your stuff. I'm writing it because I'm interested in MY stuff. I used to do a comicstrip too! It was about a Frog and Rabbit odd couple. Very quickly I found myself identifying with the rabbit significantly more than the frog. I don't know what that says about me.
Not having the faintest bloody clue how to actually design webpages myself, I've taken the easy way out and put a couple of them up on googlepages.
There isn't any through story to speak of, and they're pretty ameteurish. Tell me if any of them make you smile. I'll get round to neatening the site up and putting the rest on eventually. If I can be bothered.
One thing - is the text readable? Ive had an awful time trying to get them to fit right on the page (that's an understatement).
Cheers, and keep up the good work.

Re: This Version Is Hopefully Louder
I'm really liking what I've heard so far... I'm writing this just as we arrive at a rather purposeful part (I'm imagining its Music to Mine Minerals To). I also really liked the opening, and agree with Ringo that it is spagettiish. Considering you only have what? 4? strings at your disposal you are managing to keep interesting. I don't know much about the technical side of music but it has all been nicely melodic and varied. I don't think you mentioned what you were recording with. Is it Audacity? That's what I use primarily.
I can't resist posting a link to my songs up. See what you think of these...

That sounded really nice. Fight Club was the only one I got too. I like backwardy sounding guitar. Do you have any more?

Re: This Version Is Hopefully Louder
Used to use audacity. unfortunately, because I don't have a fancy-dancy microphone that can handle low registers, and because Audacity does not recgnize my audio input device, I use Live 5.2
To record my bass, I use M-Audio's Fast Track. I plug the bass directly into it, and it into my computer. That's why it's so quite. I could run the bass through my amp, and then through the M-Audio device, but it's worthless. I have to reduce the input level so far down so that you can clearly hear what I'm playing that I may as well just plug directly in.
With any luck, the next song will be up tomorrow. I've got it recorded, but no video done yet. Once complete, youtube has to approve the video (ugh).
Glad you like it. And the 4 strings isn't really a challenge--it's figuring out where to take my lines that's difficult. Although it does not lend itself to large chords.

Re: This Version Is Hopefully Louder
Live eh? I got a copy of that in the new year...thats Abelton, right? I've not got round to using it. Why? Because it doesn't seem very friendly at all. I like Audacity because you can hit record and go. This doesn't really seem to be possible with live. I'm sure it is, I'm just impatient. Actually, I'd really love to be able to use it. Does it have a matrix edit interface where you can arrange drum tracks etc... I simply couldn't find it.
Do you find it relatively easy to use?

thanks!
I do have one or two others but to be honest the quality is terrible. they were recorded into a 4-track, and then clumsily transferred to minidisc.
the one you heard was recorded on audacity, and mastered/tidied up on Protools.
I'm liking your tracks a lot. ou have a great voice.
If you can track down a 2nd hand version of protools I'd recommend getting it, it's far more powerful than audacity. Although more expensive.
What do you write your drum tracks on? rebirth?

Re: This Version Is Hopefully Louder
yeah, it's Ableton.
easy to use? hah! If audacity accepted my input device I'd still be using it. Granted, it's easier to use now that I've had it for a while. You have to arm the record button twice--once for the specific track and then once for the master. then you hit play, and you can record. just recently figured out how to include multiple tracks--without the second one being for midi. yeah . . .
It probably has what you're looking for. I haven't even searched for that stuff.

Thanks back at you! Its really great to hear that you like my voice, because I've always been rather ambivalent about it. To me it sounds like a goose with a lisp, at least when I'm singing.
I have heaps of other songs, which I'm going to cycle on the myspace over the coming weeks. If you fancy more of the same or similar, head on back over to myspace.com/hypnobrick periodically!
The drums here are (on Doing Your John Wayne Thing) courtesy of an 80s casio keyboard, and on Queen of the Ocean, that was something else I don't know the name of. I went round to my friends house to record the whole thing with Logic on his mac, and he had this drum loop program that has loads of recordings of actual fantastic drummers of various styles with all kinds of fills, and you stick it together really easy because theyve done most of the work. I can't for the life of me remember what that was called though, sorry.
I mentioned to Kuresu that I have something called Live by Ableton, but I haven't had the patience to learn how to use it. It doesn't seem to work like Logic or Audacity and I was totally frustrated when I booted it up to experiment. I should really read the manual one of these months!

Re: This Version Is Hopefully Louder
Brilliant, thanks for the Live tip - I honestly hadn't got as far as being able to record a single note yet. Why did they make it such a dog? I suppose it might have lots of super features that require a slightly more esoteric control panel?
I've spent the last couple of days going mental trying to make my first website look nice (yay!), with only partial success. I should be able to have a play with Live tomorrow.

song number two
okay, here it is. but first a clarification. I did not write this song--my former bass teacher did. second off, I know I'm not that great at slap. There's one part I just can never nail. Third--I recorded the video after recording the audio. So yes, the two do not line up quite right (especially at the part I can't do).
Well, enjoy.
oh, and it's a touch louder than the previous one. Any more, and the distortion would be unbearable.

Re: song number two
Some quality stuff there. Unfortunately I don’t listen to much ”conventional’ music these days, and haven’t done so since February of 1997. Your talk of distortion does intrigue me though .

Numero Tres
here it is. This one is interesting, in a way. I wrote it last summer shortly after my grandfather passed away last summer. But I never put down the chord progression. And I didn't touch the song until just recently--kind of forgot about it, actually.
Anyway, the song does have lyrics. But I'm not singing (hah!). The bass does the lyrics. Each note is one syllable (essentially. I take some liberties somewhere). The solo is a new development, and I finally got one that I'm somewhat happy with. The problem with not writing them down--each version ends up different, so you never really can "perfect" it. Not too many mistakes, though.
Oh, the video is composed of pics from my grandfather's house in sweden. It starts at the front of the house, goes down both sides, then to the back, and finally out to sea.
The lyrics (and yes, I don't really know just what I was writing. They are . . .odd). Oh, and when the bass has an effect on, it's the chorus (the second effect type is for the solo)
Oh, how time moves on/
When the tide slows down/
And goes out to sea/
Oh, how time goes on/
When you're watching/
the sails go by/
Oh, how time flies by/
Sitting on the side/
Waiting for it all/
Oh, how it all can be/
how it all should be/
Oh, how it all will be/
When time floats on/
Oh, how life wanders/
Through the cracks of dawn/
Ne'er will you see the glow/
Oh, how life moves through/
Over the noon-tide rivers/
Waiting for the time to go/
Oh, how life slows/
As the moon is full/
And the sun is gone/
Solo
Oh, how it all can be/
how it all should be/
Oh, how it all will be/
When time floats on/
Erik Sandegren. 1921-2006.
Edited by kuresu, : forgot a third of a verse. added it. now it'll line up right (once the video is there).
Edited by kuresu, : I'm an idiot. I uploaded the raw movie to youtube, not the finished one. As such, youtube rejected it. Fixing that now.
Edited by kuresu, : all my songs went blank here. Not sure why, attempting to re-embed so that you all can still play/see it. Next time, tell me this has happened. I'm not really active here right now, so I don't notice this kind of failure.

Re: Numero Tres
This song touched me, Kuresu! It came across very well! The pictures were of a place that I have never visited, yet the music brought the place closer to me.
For the first time, I could hear you play quite well and I also believe that you effectively conveyed some of the emotions and deep feelings of love and respect that you had for your Grandfather.

dang it
You beat me to it.
I have been wanting to put some of my music on here for years. As a matter of fact, I want to write an EVC theme song, and call it EVC.
The song would represent a musical battle, from the begining of time.
