Sorry but the architects of the Christian Cult of Ignorance deserve no respect. Falwell, Robertson, Crouch, Bakker, Dobson and the rest of the Christian conmen deserve no respect and the Biblical Christians that follow them deserve our pity at best, certainly not respect.

Oh come on guys, even though his views may have been wrong, he was still a human who deserves respect! What, for dying? Any idiot can do that. I hardly see it as so great an accomplishment that it offsets a life spend marginalizing and demonizing minorities, all for the sake of filthy lucre. Respect isn't deserved, it's earned; Falwell earned plenty of money but he did nothing to earn our respect.

I did not write the post in which Jar and Crashfrog replied to. I repeat: it was not me who wrote that garbage.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told Liberty University's graduating class Saturday to honor the spirit of school founder Jerry Falwell by confronting "the growing culture of radical secularism" with Christian ideals. Another Dominionist, but at least Gingerich has high moral standards. For people other than himself, anyway.Error - seattlepi.com |

1. Jesus is the son of the god who denounced devient lifestyles. He does the will of the father and the father is the one who sent the son to usher in the new dispensation of grace where the letter of the law was replaced by the spirit of the law via the Holy Spirit.
2. Nearly all the translators, i.e. the professional scholars are with me on the name of God. You are the rebelling dissenter on this name business. It's another topic and shouldn't even have been brought up here. BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW

quote: i.e. there is no reference to Jesus himself condemning homosexuality at all. You just won't admit that you were wrong.
quote: Nonsense. You know that's not true from the previous discussions. "Jehovah" is a mistaken transliteration from Hebrew into German - it's not even a transliteration into English ! Modern scholars reject it in favour of Yahweh.

DA, the frequency of severe disasters, especially destructive tornadoes, floods and fires is far greater than ever in the past. Is there any evidence for this, or is this just one of those things that you think you saw on TV somewhere, like those "tropical zebras in arctic ice"? Fires are much less destructive nowadays, 'cos buildings are more fireproof and we have fire brigades. I should guess that they're also less common per capita due to the reduced popularity of naked flames for lighting and heating. I'm not sure who's been counting tornados, but given that there's more stuff to destroy, you may inadvertently be right. As for floods, I'm sure that history must record some floods more destructive than New Orleans ... I can't quite think of one right now ... can anyone give Buzsaw an example of a big flood?

Natural disasters are not on topic here, and buz hasn't been able to support this claim anyway.
His main support at one time came from a penny stock site. Try looking here, Message 223 and following the conversation. I think all the threads dedicated to this have maxed out, maybe you would want to start another one and give buz yet another chance to provide some evidence for one of his favorite claims.

You're amazing, Nem. So much just completely escapes your notice. sigh I've grown tired of this thread because so much escapes your attention-- namely, the fact that you glibly overlook the hypocrisy of the thread. Since relaying my rationale came to nothing, I'll just go ahead and concede. Lets parade Falwell's corpse through the streets and call it a day. "God is like the sun. You can't look at it. But without it you can't look at anything else." -G.K. Chesterton

I've grown tired of this thread because so much escapes your attention-- namely, the fact that you glibly overlook the hypocrisy of the thread. I've only noticed the hypocrisy of those who, in this thread, maintain that it violates decorum to criticize the dead; but in other threads, do so with impunity. Why, what hypocrisy have you been referring to?

Sorry about not replying to people, but studying for finals, as well as taking them, takes much time.
In general, it's interesting to see where the conversation has gone. And somebody had a great point when they said that 'anybody can die. Why respect him more for doing so?' I guess my only problem was cutting him down right after he died, call me an old fashioned youngster. I still believe that hating him, or anyone else who causes so much carnage (I don't believe that to be an understatement in Jerry's case) will do nothing but allow his qualities to reflect back off oneself. I'll probably jump back on in a couple days. I'm bent, bruised, broken, and a little lost. But you know what? I'm not so afraid as you are, who has never ventured away from the trail.
