Re-edited and re-titled. In this post you will see that a prominent faith healer of his time, much to his credit, debunks himself.
In the Richard Dawkins book, The God Delusion, Mr. Dawkins introduced the readers to the story of child evangelist Marjoe Gortner. I googled on the Internet for more info and found that Marjoe's story is dispassionately told in Wikipedia: Marjoe Gortner - Wikipedia .
Marjoe Gortner, under the influence of controlling evangelical parents started his own ministry at the age of four. He was pretty good; take a look:

Later as a young adult, Mr. Gortner made a documentary debunking his own preaching as seen here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O0p4ZDnDoQ&mode=related&...
To his credit Marjoe Gortner "came clean" with regard to his evangelistic style in the 1970's when he joined the hippy movement. He went on to become a movie star, and has since dropped out of sight. I would be interested in comments and reaction from both believers and unbelievers regarding this post.
{This message is from message 3 of the "Is the debunking of miracles off limits for discussion here?" Proposed New Topic. I've promoted it with some reluctance. - Adminnemooseus}

Wow - what an interesting story!
Thanks for posting this - had never heard of him. That must have been a tough "childhood" and teenage years. I'll have to get that DVD. I'm constantly amazed at how many interesting, good, and instructive stories (movies, books, legends) are out there, and how much effort it takes to sift through the giant mass of popular culture to find them for my family.
All the best-

To me, this is like trading in your killer pitbull to get angeldust.
So... what are we discussing again?

Miracles and this repentant conjurer. This faith healer says he was a con artist, and I am of the opinion that they all are.

more smoke than fire
Welcome to the fray Jon Paine
Saw the video, but didn't see any of the "how I did it" stuff (crowd control, mass hypnosis, whatever), so was a little disappointed with it. I was expecting more of an expose debunking than just talk about discontent.
Wonder if you've seen the What kind of atheist are you?

Not necessarily. It is possible that some of them do believe that they could faith heal people, and the power of placebo takes over.

My take is that he was looking for alternative answers and was still ill-equipped to use logic in the process, so ended up switching one "feel-good" drug for another.
