Re: welcome aboard!
Ok, a little later than promised, but I'm in (name Geldrin). However, just getting HTTP internal server errors in the message log at the moment from WCG... lhc@home is connecting fine, although they're down for migration at the moment.
ABE: ok, all fine now. Offically participating in Team EvC

question
Can I move my points from my old grid.org device to the world community grid device? (they seem to be the same)

Re: question
Wait a day and see what happens - they only update team data once a day. I doubt the team will be credited with your past, but I don't really know.

Good News Jar!
latest newsletter:
quote:
Dear RAZD,
World Community Grid is pleased to announce that Phase 1 of the Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy (HCMD) project is coming to a close. This project, which launched on December 19, 2006, will have run for just over seven months by the time the final results for Phase 1 are returned. During this time 106,000 members will have donated more than 8,000 years of computer time on 154,000 different computers. This is a significant contribution to muscular dystrophy research.
In a few months, we'll be launching new projects for cancer, dengue fever, and climate prediction. All of these important projects need your computer time.
Enjoy.

Happy Anniversary
I just reached one year of donated time on my #1 computer.
My evil twin is a couple of weeks behind (the slacker).
And it takes no effort at all. No excuse not to join up.

Help scientific research in your spare time. No cost. No obligation.

Re: Happy Anniversary
Congratulations. We now have ten members that have each contributed a year or more of computer time to the Grid and that's not counting your evil twin.
All told EvC has contributed over 37 years of computer number crunch time.
It would really be great if by November of this year we could hit the 50 year mark, and if we only had a few more members that would certainly be possible.

And we have reached #200
Did anyone else notice we (Team EvC) are currently ranked #200 in points?
On a personal note, I'm now eleventh by points in the team, which ain't bad given that I've only been running for four months and on a single machine! Those Core-2 chips sure do fly

Coming up on our two year mark.
Team EvC is coming up on its two year mark in about two months. To date we have returned almost 45,000 results and contributed almost 43 YEARS of computer time.
We began with four member on 11/25/2005 and today we have 59 members.
Team EvC on the World Community Grid is a great project, it costs nothing and we are currently helping with
  • African Climate Modeling
  • Research into finding drugs to treat dengue hemorrhagic fever, hepatitis C, West Nile encephalitis, and Yellow fever
  • Research into Muscular Dystrophy cures
  • Phase 2 of the Human Proteome Folding study
  • Fight Aids at Home looking for potential new drugs to help fight and treat aids
One other project we contributed to was on helping to identify a faster method for diagnosing cancer from automated slide analysis.
Our Year One results were 22 years of computer time and 20,000 results. We only did slightly better this year, contributing about the same computer time and about 25,000 results.
Please consider joining Team EvC. It would be great if we could contribute even more next year. EvC has over 3,000 members while only 59 have signed up to help out on the Grid Project. If we could get just 1 out of 10 EvC members to join and contribute, we could jump from only 59 members to over 300.
Will you be one of those ten? Please?

Notice of change - check your agent
Latest Newsletter:

Dear RAZD,
Welcome to World Community Grid's newsletter!
Over the last six months, World Community Grid's community has made significant accomplishments. Three projects have been completed, and two new projects have been launched.

BOINC Migration

World Community Grid is pleased to announce that it has made the decision to migrate entirely to BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing). This software platform has been in use by World Community Grid since November 2005. It was added originally to provide support for users of the Linux and Macintosh operating systems, but due to its popularity, World Community Grid also has supported BOINC on Windows since December 2005. Today, approximately 50% of all runtime is returned by computers running the BOINC agent, and 80% of new computer registrations are using the BOINC software.
Check your agent and download and install the BOINC manager if you aren't using it (I think it's a better manager anyway).
Enjoy.
