Satan is Dead!
Yes friends, he was killed right there in the parking lot of New Hope First Baptist Church. Sorry to say we missed the funeral services, they were apparently held last May. Jesus has no doubt been charged with first degree murder, as the evidence seems pretty overwhelming.
Dig Satan's chalk outline.

Iron Maiden and the Door To Door Atheists In Salt Lake City,
Just one teensy little obvious and glaring error cries out for prompt and accurate correction: Iron Maiden does NOT make noise! They set beautiful literature to music, sometimes their own original compositions (which are often adaptations of classic works from other artistic forms. They've even got songs based on biblical passages. The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner is a superb adaptation of the Coleridge poem; although the story is intelligently condensed, the song still runs to some 13 mintues or so), many of the original poem lines are used verbatim. But if I had to select just one IM track that embodies both liberal and conservatives viewpoints it would be the one about the Battle of Blaclava, fought in the Crimean War and the basis for the celebrated Charge Of The Light Brigrade. Maiden's version is called The Trooper. The original poem was not so much adapted as retold from the perspective of one the soldiers who was killed mere moments before the historic victory was achieved. Iron Maiden is among the absolute finest rock bands in all of history. They're loud, to be sure, but if you'll give yourself the time to become familiar with them I don't think you'd be able to deny their musical and songwriting and perfomance genius. And once you get to the point of saying, "you know, I'm staring to like these guys, it's all over. You're a hardcore Maidenfan. Up The Irons!
That fundamental and monumental truth aside, this piece is very funny. Who is this guy? I wonder if he's ever done anything else on the subject of atheism.
What I take away from this, besides the excellent humor, is the suggestion - made by quirky example - that atheists really need to get themselves organized for serious political action. There was an article on one of the christian gay-hater sites the other day (the AFA's, for one, carried it) about how in recent years that college graduates who come from regular-church-going evangelical homes are losing their hate/faith at a rate of about 80%. Like everything else these liars for jesus report, that number should be considered suspect, but I think it's safe to assume that the number probably is indeed quite high, else the AFA wouldn't be wasting so much space on it (they've been blathering about it at a rapidly increasing pace over recent months and I think it's one of the few messages getting through to them that suggests that they are indeed losing the culture war they created) We atheists should organize ourselves and solemnly pledge to do everything in our power to drive that number to 100%, and come up with a stategy for destroying the faith and learned hatred of evengelical high school grads. Use billboards, radio and TV ads, press releases, virtually anything and everything that the evangelicals use to try force their morality on everyone else. For all their ignorance and hatred, these people are more media savvy than some of us want to give them credit for.
This is the type of thing I believe non-evangelical Christian denominations should be doing. But they aren't doing it, therefore they've left a void where hate speech directed toward immigrants, gays, women, science, you name it is going largely unchallenged. The haters are getting their message out and we aren't. That needs to change, quickly, and I think this video you posted makes that point implicit, but not quite sufficiently obvious.

Oh, Those Wild and Wacky Florida Judges!
Maybe there's something in the water down in Broward County?
Let's see - first the y2k elections were fucked up in Broward, then the Anna Nicole case brought us Larry the Justice Guy and now another Anna Nicole judge gets busted for smoking pot in a public park. As Imus would say "you can't make it up!"

Springtime For Hitler
The is about a three-minute clip of one of the funniest musical numbers you'll ever see, from the ultimate, most extravagant celebration of bad taste yet devised - Mel Brooks' 1968 The Producers. If you've never seen it, I urge you to sit down and don't try to eat or drink anything until it's over.

Red Skelton & Martha Raye
The label says this is from a rehearsal. Whatever, it's hilarious! If a TV station had aired this at the time they'd have lost their license.

I can just see that clip making its way into a hip-hop video. Something about thugs and pimps, perhaps.

HBO's Real Time w/ Bill Maher
Here are the final few minutes from Friday's show. Hear Bill's hilarious take on the invasion of Iraq, dolphins, shopping malls and, of course, the death of Jerry Falwell:

A fake Falwell on the real Billy Graham
Here's an amusing clip from the Imus In The Morning show on MSNBC one day last December, where a fake Jerry Falwell comments on a real controversy involving the family of Billy Graham. I tend to agree with him that Franklin Graham has lost whatever fragment of a mind he might have once had. Does anyone know if this silly issue was ever resolved?
And speaking of Billy Graham - and in reference to the heated arguments in the 'Falwell Dead' thread - if you want to hear a liberal like me find words of praise after the death of a supposed "man of God" then just wait until this gentleman passes. I promise you, I'll have much more good than bad to say about Billy Graham.

Foul-mouthed Brit buys the wrong air conditioner
Poor guy! This is hilarious because the guy doesn't know what a so-called portable air conditioner is supposed to be used for. He perceives all its unique features to be design flaws.
If you don't know, a portable AC is a free-standing unit that is usually wheeled to a position near a window where an exhaust hose is mounted. Because all of the intake air comes from within the room while the heated air is expelled, these machines lower the air pressure in the room and suck air in from around the door. So long as that door opens to a cooled area everything works fine. Portable ACs are useful in, for instance, an interior hotel room where the standard AC is out of order, or a room where the use of heat-generating equipment is over-taxing a building's central AC.
But that's not this guy's situation. He hits on a relatively simple solution to the air pressure problem, but in tinkering with the unit he finds other "flaws" that he thinks he can fix. It really is funny, check it out.

Re: Foul-mouthed Brit buys the wrong air conditioner
Well, I can sympathize with him over the difficulty of obtaining a unit, especially if they're as expensive as he says they are over there. But unless I'm very much mistaken, the freezing up is a result of his moving the thermostat off the cooling coil. That type of thermostat belongs on the coil, not on the wall next to it. I can't give you a detailed description of how this type of thermostat compares to a wall thermostat, of the type you would use for a central unit for instance, but the difference is probably similar to the difference in a wet-bulb thermometer and a dry-bulb thermometer.
And the water dripping on the capacitor is likely the result of leaning the unit the wrong way. Unfortumately, this type of unit sits entirely indoors, so there's no practical way to drain the condensate. Therefore, there's no way around the chore of emptying the drain pan regularly.
The guy should have got a window unit, or else he should have stopped fiddling with this one after he found his solution to the air pressure problem.
I thought it was all rather funny because as I read it I kept wanting to shout at him "NO! NO! NO!"

Re: Foul-mouthed Brit buys the wrong air conditioner
Well please explain it to me, rat, cuz I'm totally befuddled. At work, we use a portable air conditioner that matches the discription of the one this guy has. It keeps the elevator equipment cool. And although it does indeed lower the air pressure in the elevator room, that's fine because the air it sucks in comes from the hallway, which is cooled by one of the building's central units. It works beautifully, exactly the way it's supposed to work. I should think it would most certainly NOT work well if you put it in a room with a doorway that leads outside.
Once this dude equalized the air pressure he should have stopped making modifications. Everything he does from that point on seems to me a mistake.
Am I wrong about the thermostat too? Will those thermostats work better if you take them off the coil? I thought that type thermostat was designed to work best mounted on the coil. Am I wrong?
