Back to your regularly scheduled topic, already in progress
Sounds like he's getting out. A judge just overturned his sentence - but the asshole DA filed an appeal, which is keeping him in jail. They're working to get him out on bond.
Not Found - The New York Times
quote:
ATLANTA (AP) -- A former high school football star who became a national symbol for the extremes of getting tough on sex offenders was ordered released from prison Monday by a judge who called his mandatory 10-year sentence for consensual teen sex ''a grave miscarriage of justice.''
But the joy felt by Genarlow Wilson's family rapidly turned to disappointment as Georgia's attorney general announced he would appeal, a move that will keep the honor student behind bars for now.
Nice, Georgia DA's office, nice.

Lemme guess, you've never seen nor tasted bread that looks like that, so you automatically reject it because it is unfamiliar.
What are you, 7 years old?

The point is not that you can't go out of your way to find bread that does not have HFCS in it but that the average market breads are almost universal in it usage.
Try finding the proportion of without to with in your supermarket. This is not a natural product and it affects our metabolism differently than raw sugar, and it could be a cause of some eating problems (you don't feel as full so you eat more ... what's the big problem with americans again?)
Well see, my life is a bit different, since I work at my grocery store, and we don't sell any bread with HFCS. We carry 4 bread lines, too, including two that are sliced and come in plastic bags.
I live in New Hampsire and work in Vermont, both of which are states where people are really into natural foods and are aware of such things (particularly Vermont).
I know my situation isn't typical for the country, but it is typical in my region (New England)

Chartreuse bread? What about a bar chart with the % of the different non-organic elements?
High Fructose Corn Syrup for instance (try buying bread without it).
Sounds like a liberal idea to me
I loathe white bread, for instance. Chew on it and it sticks to the roof of your mouth and goes nowhere. It's a waste of money to buy it and a waste of energy to eat it. I'm certain cardboard is better for health. White bread and chartreuse bread are one and the same.
Get a bread maker and .... be too lazy to use it. Eat loads of pulse and get healthy and alone.
I like the new pic BTW. Do you have one with black run-in net stockings and pink thigh-high boots?

I live in New Hampsire and work in Vermont,....
How strong is the secession movement in Vermont? From the reports I've read, it's hard to tell if it's really got legs or is limited to a small population of nuts.

Put peanut butter on it and you have a new mouth roof, permanent.

Yep. Settle for jewish rye (jewish because kosher so far means no HFCS). or similar. black rye of course.

Good to see Bush knows how to overturn a "miscarriage of justice"....
You have to laugh - good ole GWB dives to Libby's rescue to commute his sentence, yet Genarlow Wilson is still stuck in jail. Just a reminder:
quote:
Wilson has served more than 28 months of his 10-year mandatory sentence for receiving oral sex at a 2003 New Year's Eve Party. The law has since been changed by Georgia lawmakers, but the state's top court said the new law could not be applied retroactively.

yes, but you have to realise that one's a white republican who only committed perjury and obstruction of justice while the other's a black kid who had (horror of horrors) a bj from his girfriend!
The one case concerns a serious criminal and the other a good patriot trying to help out his president.

Re: Good to see Bush knows how to overturn a "miscarriage of justice"....
By the way, just to make sure we all understand the legal situation here, Wilson was convicted of violating a state law by a state court, so the U.S. President has no power whatsoever to pardon him or commute his sentence. In cases like this, prominent Federal politicians cannot do more than apply non-legal pressure on state officials to act.
I don't think that this changes cavediver's point; I think that his point is to point out the difference in treatment between the treatment of the two people; but I don't want people to think that Bush has the power to commute Wilson's sentence or to pardon him.

Q: If science doesn't know where this comes from, then couldn't it be God's doing?

Well, apart from a few bumper stickers here and there, I hear nothing at all about it.
I'd vote for "small population of nuts".

New developments
Most detailed copy of the AP article I could find on GoogleNews with a quick search: No webpage found at provided URL: http://www.yorkdispatch.com/nationworld/ci_6367081
quote:
David McDade has handed out some 35 copies of a video of teenagers having sex at a party.
McDade is no porno kingpin, but a district attorney. And he says Georgia's open-records law leaves him no choice but to release the footage because it was evidence in one of the state's most turbulent cases -- that of Genarlow Wilson, a young man serving 10 years in prison for having oral sex with a girl when they were teenagers.
McDade's actions have opened him up to accusations that he is vindictively misusing his authority to keep Wilson behind bars -- and worse, distributing child pornography.
quote:
Earlier this week, Georgia's chief federal prosecutor, U.S. Attorney David Nahmias, said the video "constitutes child pornography under federal law," and he called on McDade's office to stop releasing copies.
I'd think it'd be fairly obvious to a freakin' attorney that releasing a video to the public of underage teenagers having sex would be in violation of the law, regardless of the reason. Though he justified it by it being required by law, he apparently didn't even obscure the faces on the video or attempt to legally prevent the video from being released to the public. His reasoning?
quote:
He has said that while the law required him to release the video, he also believes the footage helps his case -- by showing that Wilson is not the squeaky-clean football star and honor student portrayed by his supporters.
"Most of those who do not want people to see the tape know that it's damning to their position," McDade told The Associated Press.
Even if you somehow believe that Wilson deserves his sentence, I'd think that at least two women who don't want people to see the tape have pretty damn good reasons.
The "punchline":
quote:
State Sen. Emanuel Jones said he would introduce legislation to block district attorneys from handing over photographic images in sex cases.
"I'm going to call it the David McDade Act," Jones said. "Sometimes we have to protect our kids from district attorneys."

He should also know that Federal law takes precedence over State law.

Oy, yes. That's what I was trying to say in the previous sentence (I had just read the article when I made the post and was still fuming a bit). By "justified" I meant his justification/argument, not that he was correct.

Re: New developments
I wonder if there are any exceptions written into the anti-kiddie-porn law? It would be funny if that DA was breaking the law just by possessing those tapes.
